since ce3 is over and the announcement has dropped i figured its due time to make a thread about me and mikes "little" project

at last ce3 you may remember the rats nest project that i showed off.


well i enlisted mikecyborgs help to finish the project as i was getting pretty damn frustrated with it, and after about a month of trying to work on it himself we kinda came to the same conclusion :P

fck it porting bsp's sucks....

so out of this realiziation came the idea that we could make a mappack with custom bsp's
and this was born:

see how official we are we have a massive logo :P

after spending a few days on the logo we started working on bsp designs.

including this failure of a design

even started ressurecting old projects


both of these are still planned in btw

even this was considered being added to the project

the name mental originally came from the fact that noone else at the time was crazy enough to try porting these maps first :P

so far we have 3 custom bsp's in progress and one bsp that is a custom remake

the first bsp has ho name so far






the next bsp in progress also has no name but was shown in our trailer



this is the closest to completion of the many maps in progress

the third bsp in progress is a repurposing/ remake of a popular unreal tournament map called grendelkeep (name is probably going to be changed from the original)
{reserved untill mike gives me some pics to post}

this last map is a custom remake and i wanted it to be T Ce3 this year but between me being at work and mike being busy at the time it didnt happen,

so here is the new and revised rats nest in its current form









thats all from me for now. ill have mike come and do a post to fill you guys in on the tagset side of the project soon

Hope you don't mind but I am going to drop the request you sent me on this I just haven't heard from you for a while feedback wise and I'm holding up other stuff because of this.

I'm not sure if you have edited the topology since you last sent me the stuff for that particular map but if you haven't you really should, nearly half of the tris count is just wastage and provides no degree of interest what so ever. (as far as looks go)

All in all the map is a great concept just optimize it a little more.

I optimised the BSP even before we recorded for the trailer, the BSP from Killzone is his working BSP. He made the BSP and then I optimised and added texture detail.


One thing I realized while CE3 was going on is that the map needs more scenery, and we will also be needing to toy with the flag location.

Yea. I tend to drop off the face of the earth occasionally so it's no surprise you haven't heard from me. Hell, the team hasn't heard from me for nearly a month now.

In regards to the topology Mike optimized for me once I sent him the terrain. I come from a computer aided design background so I'm really bad at keeping poly counts low when modeling XD




Excuse the phone pic but I'm back to work on bsp's again and I have no internet where I'm at.

Since your so involved in it why dont you tell the story to dramamaps...

In short we were part of a sorta cmt project but left because we didnt agree with design and balance decisions

I got approached by Il Duce around March to help him finish MPG4, since I love the MPG3 maps I accepted. :/ I added KZ and Mike to the project, disagreements about stuff, bla bla boring stuff, and then like everyone quit in perfect unison.

After that I just went and formed Polyonymous and got all the old buds back together while Mike and KZ went to make the beauty you see here.

So the lief lesson here is if Megasean is involved what ever your doing will probably fail and then 3 months down the line the fruits of that failure will be released in a combination of youtube post-mortems/imgs & tags.

UPDATE TIME

during a few slow moments at work i managed to imporve one of the bsp's a little bit.





and yes before you ask i ripped those cranes.

i think so, and also NeX'S Shader and texture are bad. its too colorful

Oooh. I don't suppose we will be able to enter the carriages? Actually it wouldn't really matter just having moving train scenery with screaming people on board would be enough for me.
