Is it legal to pay for people to make models and tags and whatnot or is that technically illegal since the property that goes through tool is automatically owned by Bungie?

If so, then forget it, but someone please tell me and give me more info.

Just to clarify, I am not wanting people to pay me, its the other way around, and again to clarify further, if its illegal there is no way I will have any intention of doing so.

Based on my very rudimentary understanding, if someone were to make a model, they could charge you for that, and you could put it into Halo and there wouldn't be any issue. If someone were to make a model and turn it into a tag, though, I'm pretty sure they couldn't legally charge you for that tag.

But, I may be mistaken, so hopefully someone with a better grasp of the subject will chime in.

If it's ingame in any sort of way, then no.

If it's in a 3d modeling program, you'd have to look at the licences required for you to be able to profit.

Yes, you can. There's nothing illegal about it.

Only 24.98 for your latest mods!

Anything you make in Halo is Microsofts.
Eula:
Quote: All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including but not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, audio, music, text, and “applets” incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT), the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are owned by Microsoft or its suppliers. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is protected by copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE PRODUCT like any other copyrighted material.

MS game content usage rules state:
Quote: We know that people like you – gamers, fans, individuals, and enthusiasts – love our games and sometimes want to use things like gameplay footage, screenshots, music, and other elements of our games ("Game Content") to make things like machinima, videos, and other cool things (your "Item(s)"). We'd like to make that easier to do for fans of our games. So long as you can respect these rules, you can use our Game Content to make your Items...

Except as described here, you can't sell or otherwise earn any compensation from your Item, including through advertisements in the Item. This means you can't charge money in exchange for your Item, post it on a site that requires subscription or other fees to view the Item, or post it on a page you use to sell other items or services(even if they have nothing to do with Game Content or Microsoft).

Did you miss the part in the first quote where it says "incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT?" If you put it in Halo, you lose.

Honestly, I just thought of something because I'm an idiot and didn't realize this beforehand. If I ever want to actually learn how to rig bipeds up and animate them, paying someone to do it for me isn't going to help me in the slightest, I was going to look at it for reference, but I just realized something, there are already custom bipeds that are really nice, I can learn from those. The only way to learn is by doing it or watching how its done.

i'm glad to see new members taking interest in the HEK, and that you aren't just another troll account here to cause more trouble and not contribute to the community at all...

How about the part where it says "Microsoft or its suppliers"? It's a generic statement that says, 'we own everything apart from the stuff we don't own. The stuff we don't own is owned by the company that owns it'. Microsoft doesn't own everything that's used in Halo.

The game content rules (which didn't exist back when they released HEK) apply to Microsoft's assets, not entirely original assets that you've made yourself.

There's been a discussion on this already.

Well that settles it then.

Takedown is now $39.99 for the previous 2 maps and the new one will be $59.99

For anyone wanting Sierra 117, you can get into the early alpha build if you preorder by June for just $69.99 for the collectors edition

Lets test your theory Sparky. Go contact Microsoft and inform their legal/marketing division that you are "advertising" and "selling" tags or other content with the HEK, in which said content can only be used in Halo or other Blam! Engine powered games.....and let us know what happens.

Everyone thinks their legal expert...lmao
