So after a few scrolls in halomaps.troll I noticed that there are still some 12 year old halochildren making wars about Autodesk and Blender, hah!
After drifting in the sea of shame I decided to make this small list of Free Software, I have made a few on this site, but hey since when do halomaps users search????
First <b>3d Modeling tools:</b>
1- Blender: Free Opensource tool that can do 3d modeling, animations and insane renders, for the price of... that's right FREE. It also comes with a game engine and many CGI animation movies have been made with it.
Download: <url>http://www.blender.org/</url>
2- Gmax: G-Max is like a free ver of 3ds Max 6, It's very outdated but it supports some halo moding scripts.
Download: <url>http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax</url>
3- Wings 3d: Wings 3d is a powerful and easy to use sub-div modeling tool.
Download: <url>http://www.wings3d.com/</url>
4- K-3D: K-3D is free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling and animation software. It features a plugin-oriented procedural engine for all of its content
Download: <url>http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Main_Page</url>
5- Art of Illusion: Art of Illusion is a free, open source 3D modelling and rendering studio. Many of its capabilities rival those found in commercial programs. Highlights include subdivision surface based modelling tools, skeleton based animation, and a graphical language for designing procedural textures and materials.

6- TopMod3d: Another free and easy to use tool.
Download: <url>http://gargon3d.blogspot.com/2010/02/topmod3d-un-3d-distinto.html</url>
7- Pov-Ray: This one is bad*ss
Download: <url>http://www.povray.org/</url>
8- Sculprits: Like a light weighted ver of Zbrush and Free
Download: <url>http://pixologic.com/sculptris/</url>
9- Houdini: A beast and industry standard. Only for free for non-commercial use!
<url>http://www.sidefx.com/</url>
10- terragen: Terrain modeling tool, I mainly use this for making skies as the free ver is limited as fk.
Download: <url> http://planetside.co.uk/</url>
There are some other cool ones, and some of them are completely on the web, which I don't recommend.
<b>2d/image editors:</b>
1- Gimp: Gimp is a free tool that has many of the features in Photoshop, and uses less resources, has a wide plugings library.
Download: <url>http://www.gimp.org.es/</url>
2- Paint.NET: Another free tool but with less features than Gimp.
<url>http://www.getpaint.net/index.html</url>
3- Pixlr: Free image editor that requires no install and lives in your browser.
