Hey guys,
My friend recently bought and installed Halo Custom Edition, but he's having a problem with the display.
Whenever he boots Halo CE, it shows black, and the music plays from the interface. However, when he boots it using safemode it works... but it is very visually displeasing and causes many errors.
So, after consulting the troubleshooting posts, we figured out the problem... it lies in the graphics card settings (something having to do with anti-aliasing I believe)... but now we have another problem... whenever we attempted to view the settings, it would not load correctly. So now we're stuck not being able to view his graphic card settings.
We have tried downgrading drivers, we google searched the problem and just about tried every hit that came up, and still nothing. He runs a laptop that is about 5 years old, Windows 7 64 Bit, and has a NVIDA G105M graphics card.
Has anyone ran into this same issue or knows of any solutions? Your help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I've had issues with applications forcing halo to have anti-aliasing. When I applied the anti-aliasing halo would black screen like you have mentioned. I have no idea what to do about your inability to get to the settings! I've also had problems making halo into 1080 resolution, that includes OS. 1080 works 98% of the times and when it doesn't I get an exception everytime I start halo until I go into safe mode and reset the resolution then exit the game then go back and set it back to 1080 resolution. That related very little to your problem but what I want to say is check if you are going beyond what stock halo provides in terms of resolution.
Wait, if it works on safe mode, can't you change settings 1 by 1 from there and see what is causing the black screen?

Like others have said, make sure your friend isn't forcing AA from the graphics card.

We both know its the anti-aliasing, I established that in the main post.
The problem is that we cant get the graphic settings to open properly to configure the anti-aliasing... The graphic card options simply do not open, and we have tried downgrading drivers and various re-installs of the software and drivers.

Try running the graphics card app in compatibility mode? Edited by SS Flanker on Oct 10, 2014 at 06:07 AM
