This may sound stupid but have you tried playing around with your resolution settings.

From a week ago, have you installed any new software?

Do you have a legitimate anti-virus?

What OS are you using?

Try using a system restore point, and restore your pc to an earlier time when halo was working.

You may have intentionally, or most likely unintentionally made a change to the state of your pc's configs which in doing so has affected your pc, and inturn has affected halo.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

If that fails to work, uninstall halo, then use this app. (You will have to do this manually.)

http://www.ccleaner.theappcenter.com/?network=bing_search&network_ad_id=4465620152&keyword=ccleaner&MatchType=e&bingItemId=116075061033

to remove any of halo's registry keys which are left over.

Then re-install, run in compatibility mode and hope for the best.

If anything goes wrong, post again I guess.
