It might not be compatible with current version of OS.

Quote: A small group has been quietly preparing for the shutdown of the GameSpy Master Server (which provides the list of Halo servers) and they are finally ready to discuss their work. The group consists of Roger Wolfson aka Sawnose (of Bungie), Btcc22 (of HAC2), Kornman00 (of OpenSauce) and myself, Technut (of PÕQ Clan).

As a result of their work, especially Btcc22 and Roger, Bungie will be releasing version 1.0.10 of Halo PC and Halo CE soon, which will include the fix for the Lobby!

Bungie is still allowed to release patches for this? Isn't 343 in charge now?

From the 1.08 patch:
"I should also note that Bungie does not officially support Halo PC (which is owned by Microsoft, not Bungie) but since the build machine is under my desk and not at MS, I fixed these several bugs as a favor to the community."
So whether they're "allowed" to or not, it seems that they still possess the capability, and no one has anything to gain from telling them they can't release another update.

I doubt they'll ever do it, simply for the fact that it's their name on it and won't take chances with something developed by the community. That's why this new patch probably isn't going to include any major fixes/alterations.

With that said, I'm really impressed that they are allowing this Bungie employee to help us out, it's a great demonstration of the human touch that is so lacking in this industry. Next step: source code :D not sure who owns it, though - but if it's Bungie, well... look what they did with the Marathon games.

Anyway, back on topic: I'm gonna host a gamenight on May 31st to celebrate. I'll make a thread about it when I work out maps/gametypes.

I wonder if it would be possible to fix things like: backpack reload, phantom shots, double melee, and other glitches. I have to use them because other players do it too and it's useless to tell everyone not to use glitches, but I think it would be better if those exploits didn't exist.

- permit resolutions up 4800x3600
- enable active camo on Nvidia (it will render like other cards now instead of just alpha blending)
- fixed video memory value to support 2GB cards
- fixed handling of periods in map names
- network access is enabled in devmode
- sv_ban_penalty in init.txt works to set new values
- models node limit raised to 63
- ignores checksum of strings.dll
- various overflow, validation and other code fixes

These seem to be all the fixes made, some nice stuff in there. It's all from the forum on that site.

Can anyone confirm these changes? You can test it out by downloading it from the link in the forum post. You have to uninstall hac2 and os in order for the patch to work correctly, though.

This should be stickied, the h2spp thread should be renamed, and this thread should be called "For those that said this day would never come"

Learn 2 halo.

I know how to "Halo", but others don't, and that's the problem.

Glitches are certainly part of the gameplay but there aren't tutorials in the game that teach you how to use them so newbies constantly get their a$$es kicked because they're in disadvantage, not only because they lack skill, but because they need to reload, they can't do double damage with a melee, and it's easy to tell where they are when they're shooting at you.

That's disappointing; they actually did fix the ability to overwrite memory through devmode and scripts lol. Now we dont have infinitely large storage areas, and can't warp the graphics with scripts lol. its great having a script bruteforce all the memory to random values and watch things collapse (letters disappearing, etc)... I have a lot of regret now; I should of released a map that was constantly damaging itself by continually replacing random values... but its too late now.

See: any other of the good halo titles, not to mention other games. There are tricks to every game, and frankly the tricks in this one aren't that bad (look at halo 2 where if you couldn't double-shot it was nearly impossible to win). They just aren't that game-breaking. I'd even go so far as to say that spawn-timing weapons and powerups is much more advantageous and useful than double-meleeing or backpack reloading (both of which are only useful in specific scenarios - double-melee requires you to have at least 1 grenade, and backpack- reloading only becomes useful after you've emptied the clips of both your weapons and return to your first). So with your logic, should all spawn times be randomized so that they can't be timed? Should weapons even spawn on maps? Let's give everyone an even playfield by implementing loadouts and removing the weapon/powerup spawns from the map.

Why do you think Halo 1 has more replay value than Halo 4?

Everyone (including newbies) know that power-ups exist and most players know about spawn-timing weapons and other stuff of that kind that you can use at your advantage, because those features were meant to be in the game, glitches didn't.

After some time in the game you'll notice weapons/vehicles/dropped flags/power-ups take a determined time to respawn, same with where people spawn in a map or where the hill will possible be when it changes position in a Crazy King gametype. But that's kind of hard to do with glitches; if you don't go search how to use exploits on Halo you'll always be on disadvantage, except if you're lucky enough to discover it for yourself, but that hardly is going to happen.

Lastly, I never said the game should be 100% fair with everyone, did I? I just said why exploits of that kind are so unfair with some people, so I don't know how did you come up with that logic, supposedly mine.

Really, you really think people know spawn times from pure observation.

With that logic, they must have a good enough sense of observation to be able to tell that someone is able to double-melee or backpack reload.

The truth is that these exploits, like spawn times and locations, are learned from websites.

I don't think you play halo at a high enough level to know to what extent the players know the spawn times and locations and use it to their advantage.

People have been using these exploits for years, they aren't going to fix them, and they shouldn't. It's too late to make changes to the gameplay.

And all I did was follow your thought-train to its inevitable conclusion of making the game approachable. You can't say it needs to be fair in some aspects but not others. The truth is, halo has a rep (good or bad) for the skill curve, and that's just the way it is.

Yes, I did it that way cause it's possible, unlike glitches.

Then you did it wrong.

You can't say it needs to be fair in some aspects but not others.

Obviosly you can't have a 100% fair game, what I said, and I repeat on other words, is that the "unfairness" could be less. You can't justify something unfair saying there are other things that are also unfair.

Quote: --- Original message by: stunt_man

That's true and that's why I now doubt that exploits will be removed. People would complain a lot and they would demand to put 'em back, just like it happened with some people I know when the no-lead fix came out. Although, it would be a bit different because exploits wouldn't be optional. There are people that are so used with leading/glitching that they would not play differently.

So yeah, now that I think better, exploits being fixed is more likely not going to happen, but still [what I said at the beggining of this post].
