Heat distortion effects. To be more specific, the heat distortion seen on jet thrusters and intense open flames. Here is a more "technical" look, if you will: How would one go about creating an effect like this in Halo: Custom Edition? Just from gauging the broadness of the HEK, it seems that there could be multiple methods to performing this, ranging from the simple to the advanced, because I know that the rasterizer can accomplish things such as the active camouflage distortion as seen in the game's globals in the actual radiosity section. I'm sure Altis, Kirby, Higuy, or anyone else who has an extensive grasp of the more "black arts" of these types of advanced and, not commonly known, methods, as even I am unaware of how to perform this myself, and would appreciate some insight.

Create bipeds with camo using script. That's probably the only way.

If I were to use a biped attachment method, how would I go about creating the wavy rippling and rumbling effect? Texture-based animation loops? Physical animation of the biped? Usage of an advanced system of effect parameters?

The textures would mean nothing so you should just make animated model.

Use camo and bump mapping... Study the banshee vehicle, you'll see that the banshee displays like some "laser" when is flying, you can do the same thing but using a camo shader, however is probably that you won't get a excellent result, but it will look good.

Well, I am in fact pro-OS, and I do have the latest build with the HEK extensions installed, so if it is indeed possible to do, and you have any methods either utilizing OS upgrades or stock, then by all means explain or lend insight if you'd like, preferably a method with the most efficiency and would operate easiest over multiplayer, preferably without having to utilize scripts like Altis's method.

I know that, but I'm not sure that just slapping a few attach scripts for bipeds every time a jet vehicle's engines are activated into the MP level will sync for all clients. Besides, if there is a less complicated method of doing this without using scripts altogether, I'd much rather do that. Edited by Bungie LLC on Apr 25, 2014 at 08:27 AM
