Since I can't do it my self not even with OS I decided *and if it's ok with Master Dennis* to start a Photo Topic only for Halo.

http://halo-photographer.deviantart.com/gallery/29701961

Like the link up top I wanted to continue making Great Halo Wallpaper but since my pc is pretty much broken from Hard drive to keys *esc going down* I can't anymore, maybe you all would like to show Me some good photos you all took. Btw try posting 1600 or higher.

Cool topic.

If you don't mind, heres some constructive crit on your own photos:

1. Try to get some better shots and angles. Alot of the compositions in your work are alright, but could be really improved on.

2. Get rid of the ENB Bloom or whatever your using, it really does more harm to the pictures than good. :(

Personally I don't take much photos in CE (I don't play much either latley) other than my own maps I developed.

There is way too much bloom in all of your screenshots. Halo CE has never and will never be realistic so it's much better to just work with the more 'comical' photo comp of unrealistic video game lighting.
But keep trying, you'll only get better by doing it more.

if u want to make it brighter, proxy SweetFX into your ENB, and up the bringtness with tonemapping. also i recommend desaturation, smoothstep s-curves contrast boost of luma and chroma, using SweetFX's bloom (at default values) and lower the bloom on your enb but still use both blooms, intense lumasharpen, random dithering, and possibly some CRT and DPX if you're into those.

JPG isn't bad if you use the highest quality settings possible, and yeah, like Mootjuh said, take the pictures at a HD resolution to begin with.

Never tried with Jpg all my Photos from game I play are always in PNG, I always wondered why Jpg exists since PGN looks so much better. Now I know ha ha.

it seems you are suggesting that all PNG files have a much larger file size than their highest quality JPG counterpart

He is correct for the most part. While there are exceptions to the rule, PNG's generally have larger file sizes than JPEG due to the lossless data encoding method. Larger file size = worse for internet use.

Oh ~ My ~ God... That's a lot of unused intelligence...

You could get away with PNGs if you were taking screenshots of a sprite-based sidescroller or something, but the weakness here is that this is Halo.

Halo uses some hefty pixel shaders, and lots of transform and lighting. This game isn't running on Portable Network Graphics, that's why these morons' screenshots have unnecessarily big filesizes and are an obvious waste of bandwidth.

Does anyone realize just how low-poly Halo PC and Custom Edition are?

Also, Portable Network Graphics are meant to be used for heavily distributed assets like text-based logos, web banners, icons, custom links, and other webpage items. A game screenshot is definitely not meant to be saved in this kind of format. (Once again, sprite-based sidescrollers could get away with this because of their lack of overall pixels used)

I thought Halo used 24 bit in the RGB, 8 bits per channel. 8*3=24?

Since this thread is about the creative aspect of Halo CE maps I thought I would ask if anyone would like to help take screenshots for the Halo CE Art website? What I am looking for is in game, hudless, no bloom, screenshots of the Artistic aspects of various original maps. If people are willing to help I will post guidelines for submission.

I'd love to give this a shot, too...

Kozakuu, how do you take your screenshots (especially during games)? It's pretty obvious you can't make the shots you have "normally" in-game...

Some of them are shot during real gameplay such as the one of the falcon and warthog but the vast majority of my screenshots are choreographed players because there's no real way of capturing great screenshots during live play.
Other than that it's just choosing the right angles with the debug cam and fixing up stuff that looks weird. I don't use any visual mods such as ENB or sweetFX though.

I look forward to seeing your screenshots!

It's about time you made more Photos of the art of Halo side on your Website I love those Photos, it's pretty much what keeps me playin Halo.

When he said no Bloom I cried....

Btw lets keep the Topic E rated ok stop the fussing.

There is a way, always, you just need to know whats coming and when to time it. Sorry for posing something not Halo related but since my Esc and the key under it is broken still I can't take Halo Photo's anymore *let me know if anyone finds out how I can change the keys pls*

This is a Photo I took in Dragon Nest PVP I got luky getting this Shot, sometimes to get a great photo you need to bash your snapshot keys to death after that just delete the ones that doesn't look good, too much light, too much explosions, so on. Btw yes I photoshoped the purple effects, it's what I do in games now.

Whoops, forgot to reply to this.

tbh, the first thing I noticed about your screenshots was the image itself. Widescreen monitors and TVs now dominate the market and it's only common sense to make screenshots that match these widescreen dimensions. tl;dr 16:9>4:3

Other than that there's not really much else I can say about these screenshots. As you said yourself you didn't put much time and thought into frame composition which makes them appear more like happy snaps than art pieces. It takes time to make great images and the only shortcut for it is to do the work.

Still, as I outlined in my first post in this thread, learning photography is a skill of attrition, you only get better by doing it more. The fact that you've tried shows you're interested in learning, which is always a positive thing.

btw, did that Halo CE art thing ever happen Dennis? It looks like there's a few people interested in your proposal.
