posted some 4k screenshots of CE in the CMT thread. I run at 3840x2400, which is technically a 4k res

4k textures do not have a relation to 4k screen resolution. Seriously, why do people keep getting these things mixed up? They have as much relation as a table has to a spoon. The spoon might look nicer if it's rested on a table of the same material, but they can still both be made of completely different materials and they won't change each other.

4k textures do sound interesting though. So does 4k resolution (I think anti-aliasing might be needed though). Also wouldn't it mess with the lod system? I remember hearing that the lods in ce are based on how many pixels the object takes up.

4k textures are absoultley unnnecssary. If you need to go really high, use 2048. Use those sparingly though...

And like others said just becuase your using a texture with more pixels does not mean its going to look better. Same goes with a monitor. Only reason you'd need 4k pixels on your monitor is becuase its reallllly big but then your also going to run into issues with sizing of plenty of stuff.

Well, when you have a 4k display you also get a crazy pixel density which makes everything look sharper. My screen looks more like a magazine with not a single pixel visible.

I wouldn't say 4k textures are completely unnecessary, they're good for a large base map texture that is stretched across the whole map (IE: the cell_01 basemap in the a30 campaign map), which can make distant terrain look freaking amazing.

As far as 4k tile-able detail map textures go, they're not really necessary unless you want to zoom in 8x with a sniper on a rock at point and still not see any pixellation (but really micro detail maps take care of that for you)

This is still dependant on screen size though.
and obviously how far away you are viewing from

wait, hold on a second.

do you run that resolution on one, single display? or is that resolution accomplished by a multi-display setup?

thanks in advance.
