Getting close to done; debating on whether I want to run Aether lightmaps since I'm liking the outcome tool is giving me. Gotta do some last minute portal fixing for the main big tank room since a small portion will clip out at small angles :\

It'd be pretty sick if you made a new decal for when bullets shoot at the glass. Of course glass breaking and water flooding the room is completely out of the question but if you made it seem like the glass had large cracks in it from all the bullets, that would add a nice touch.

Kinda something like this every time you shot the glass with a human weapon.

Thats a pretty slick idea, I'll have to look into it. I think ice has an actual similar decal if I'm not mistaken?

speaking of which, were would one edit those decals, eg how /where do they know to use which decal etc

I think that floor would actually look really nice if you put something between it and walls, such as a skirting board around the walls, or perhaps just a simple bevel.

Other than that, looking very good.

Today we played with around 6-7 people, slayer, ctf, koth, etc, and it was pretty fun. Thanks to the SBB guys they hosted and played with us as well. Got some good feedback from L0d3x, ODX, and Btc22 has been giving alot of suggestions as well. Progress is going good and the level plays pretty decently. Some things might get changed/added/etc, notably the back tank room as its extremely easy to capture in CTF because of it.

If you want to think of something similar, think of Rat Race basically with some more teleporters thrown in.

Essentially caustics working in CE. Didn't take a whole lot of effort and I actually tried this a while ago for Lumoria but never got the results I wanted, but some extra thinking always does wonders! As you can see its fully animated and everything. Needs some polish, but it does the job done right.

For anyone who wants to know how its done:

I essentially made a cubemap consisting of the same caustics texture on all 6 sides, then used two light (.light tag) animated in different ways (You add the cube + animation in the gel section). You also have to make sure its pretty big, is dynamic, and both cutoff angles are 180 (Not exactly sure, but this is how the b30 gel is set up.)

If you notice under the gel section in the light there is two cubemaps you can add. For whatever reason, you can't have both at the same time and is pretty much essential to get what you want. So thats why you gotta use both, and just attach both to a scenery file. If you want to look for more reference look up the b30 folder levels\b30\devices\interior-tech-objects\holo control room display.


oh so you used a cubemap in a light tag! but (i might be missing something) how did you managed to keep the dynamic lighting away from the rest of the tunnels?
as far as i know, dynamic lights can go through walls and objects alike, so how did you keep the caustics just in the room with the big window? just keeping low lighting radius/intensity?

AMAZING MAP! btw :P

You can set the world radius and they do fade as they get farther away. Also, they only bleed onto walls facing the light source, so they don't get projected onto ones not facing it.

I really like this map. The song selection, the aquariums, the water effects are all excellent. My only complaint is that I also found myself getting lost very easily xD. Also I think the shotgun and sniper rifle spawns should be swapped.

It is quite visual and there was always something cool to look at. On top of that it played really well on a lot of different gametypes. It's got the looks, it's got the gameplay. What more could you ask for? A+ map.

Something that is really bothering me about this map is the floor texture. Other then then, it's looking good. Add more stuff. :)

Thanks, and the sharks are animated but they only bob up and down. If someone wanted to make a fully rigged shark w/ animations be my guest lol but its not something I'm really concerned with.

Would you mind putting the model up for download or messaging it to me? No promises because it's been a LOOOOONG time since I messed around with this stuff, but that seems like it would be incredibly easy to add simple animations to (basically just a move-front and turning animations). I'll be at a desk all day tomorrow with not much to do, so I might try to pass the time by messing around with animations or something.
