I'm an otaku and I've never once used the term 'Kawaii' or 'Desu' in context. In my opinion, this whole 20% cooler nonsense is annoying. In my heavily jaded opinion, Anime can have darker themes, whereas My Little Pony cannot. Of course, they can have 'dark' subplots, but most of it's degraded to insecurity and blah de blah. In the end, hope always comes through and saves the day. In anime, characters die (in often horrendous ways) and they don't come back. A slice of life anime like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya had a scene during the disappearance arc where Kyon is stabbed repeatedly in the chest and Asakura is flicking the blood from her knife onto a shocked Nagato. I don't see how that's 'Kawaii' in the slightest. In fact, Shion/Mion was posted in this thread. Needless to say, she made some girl stab her head on a knife over and over again because the girl was afraid of being tortured to death.
Anime is much more diverse than My Little Pony was, is and will ever be. Why? Because Anime doesn't refer to one show. We all don't just sit there on a couch and watch the 'Miku Suzumiya McKamina Satoko Misaki Shirai' show. Contrary to belief, they're all from different shows. My Little Pony in essence is a 'one trick pony'. Where anime can be geared towards adults, the only thing directly geared towards adults in the My Little Pony universe are the clop fics. Never compare these two fanbases EVER again.
