So, I moved Halo Combat Evolved to a destination that'd make it easier for me to access it, but I deleted the folder that originally held it and changed the name to HCE, I just want to know the original directory for Halo:Combat Evolved, is it C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Combat Evolved or something, because I am trying to install the 1.09 patch for it, but it keeps saying I don't have it on my computer, so umm yeah. Thanks in advanced, guessing you do reply with an answer.
Have a nice day, ~Michael

Yes, the update patches whinge about your placing of the game. kinda have to have it in the default location, which is silly.

Obviously you guys realize that the proper way to remove games is to uninstall them and not to delete their folders due to the fact that installing the game also installs registry keys that give the system information about where you placed the game and what version it's at? You guys knew that right?
@lightupman open up regedit.exe (start menu, search "regedit" without quotes) Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Halo CE (or Halo) You should see a key called EXE path. Double click on this key and it should give you a string value of where you originally installed the game to.

Indeed C Program files microsoft games is the default installation directory when you open the game installer, but people like me change it to another disk partition, say in D drive. The best way to know your original installation directory is to check regedit. Why doesn't anyone listen to me?

He is not asking where he installed it. He is asking where it would be installed by default, i think. Quote: --- Original message by: lightupman I just want to know the original directory for Halo:Combat Evolved Edited by Maniac1000 on Aug 29, 2013 at 02:23 PM

Quote: --- Original message by: lightupman I just want to know the original directory for Halo:Combat Evolved Edited by Maniac1000 on Aug 29, 2013 at 02:23 PM It's true that in general, people install the game into the default directory into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition, but judging from the entire original post by the OP, it seems that he is asking where to find his installation path because he is trying to patch his own game. In the case of patching, the patcher would indeed look for where his own game was installed on his system, and if it happens to end up being the default C:\Program Files (x86), then so be it.
