theres been a visual problem that's been bugging me for a while, especially on single player maps, its where sometimes for a quick quarter of a second, every few seconds, a bit of the map would flash away, idk if its called a poly limit or what but if someone knows what I mean, can they help me fix this problem? its weird playing lumoria and see the land vanish and see floating rivers

I'm not sure but I think that is caused by the net framework 4.5 when i install that halo give me errors like that, for that reason i use the 4.0 now (if you that reboot yor pc after the install of the v4 and try again)

I hope to help you :)

don't worry, you can update again to 4.5 if you need to use a new software (i don't know what softwares used that version anyway)

If you install 4, you will still retain 4.5 unless you uninstall it. Otherwise this looks like a portaling bug on behalf of the creators

Looks like a portalling issue to me, in which case the fault lies with the map creator, not halo or your computer.

It's definitely halo's fault that it can't render more than 10k tris of BSP at once despite having single vehicles with more than half that. But not an issue with anyone's particular computer, no.

I find it odd that we can add shaders, post processing, normals on objects, but we can't find the "rendered poly clip" function and change it from 10000 to something much larger. I mean a engine is a program like everything else. The rendered poly count is not a physical constant that can't be changed it is simply a statement somewhere in there that says, "if rendered poly count > 10000, then clip"
I Really REALLY can not for the life of me figure out why no-one has found how to augment this.

So the hope is that OS may be able to enable it and then it would just be a matter of balancing what limits work with the engine within computers today? Or would the limits hopefully be infinite with the discretion having to be by the creator him/herself?

about the topic this thread was created for, i believe i watched one of killaftw's youtube videos a while back saying that OS expanded the maximum draw distance, but i can't confirm any of this. if u can't get ahold of masters, u could try asking killaftw.

Oh hell no! I was simply stating the sad folly of saying definitively as Glados did, "Now he is banned. finally". There is no such thing as "banned finally" on this site.

I have seen similar errors (smearing at poly edges, etc.) in playing the CE ports of "The Silent Cartographer" and "Two Betrayals". Another odd error you might have noticed are the missing holographs from the Control Room bay door switches at the start of "Two Betrayals". These are porting errors caused when the original maps were stripped into their parts and then recompiled to make the Halo Custom Edition compatible maps. All of the original maps were ported by Renamon back in 2006, and there were clearly, in places, kind of a sloppy job.

Why would anyone want to play the original campaign maps under CE? For me, it is so I can uses OpenSauce to make my game look better, just like I have started to do in my multiplayer maps. Being able to bump up my FOV to 90 degrees is another. It would be awesome, if someone were to take another whack at porting the original maps, but do it more carefully. :)

better halo1 maps port u say... i'd love to see that. turn the texture noise into grain (if u don't know what that is don't ask), use 1k textures, fix the UVs, and give everything a bump (or parallax). add some better animations, i'd love to see gamma927, flame omega, odx, and teh lag do the animations for that (they know their stuff, but i prefer gamma927 and flame omega's more stylized animations). maybe get ifaudafi (sry for misspelling) to redo the particles. and then yeah... that whole draw-distance thing.

Yep, that would all be great, but I also want to be able to play the original single player campaign just like it originally looked in Halo, but with some of the cool visual updates provided by OpenSauce. You know, really, with the bump mapping and specular highlights that Gearbox added, if you turn all the graphic options all the way up, you keep the games gamma (brightness) at the dark default, and if your monitor is properly adjusted for black level, white level, and gamma (2.2) -- regular old Halo looks pretty damn good. If you start talking about Custom Edition, throw in the FXAA anti-aliasing and bloom OpenSauce adds, and the game almost looks sort of semi-modern.

I agree with antarctico. Halo looks amazing when your monitors are actually calibrated!
And about those crazy portaling errors..1]

i hear ya man, i just got done playing oblivion on my rig, and well, i can make 2006 look GOOD. it doesn't take much either, a weather mod, detailed normal maps, better character faces and viola, almost like skyrim (but greener). i'd love to see something similar for custom edition
