You can use whatever program to model your bipeds. The main thing is that you keep the proportions to the CE boneset. You could, alternatively, create it to a custom boneset and reanimate everything

If you want to get serious about character modeling I would check out a sculpting program such as Zbrush, I see people making some awesome things that aren't easily accomplishable in max.

makehuman is a program that will create anatomical characters automatically based on a bunch of variables controlled by sliders, much like skyrim but more in depth meaning no skills nessecary to make a nude basemodel..... @OP look up tutorials for 3ds max or if you dont want to drop the dough use blender which is an opensource, extremely powerful, modeling, animating, sculpting, and rendering program that's completely free to use and constantly innovating and improving. and/or 3ds max student. http://blender.org/ http://students.autodesk.com/ Edited by killzone64 on Aug 2, 2013 at 10:38 PMEdited by killzone64 on Aug 2, 2013 at 10:40 PM
