Hey everyone,

I was wondering how to create environmental particles such as waterfalls to enhance my environment.

This is how I would like the particles to look like. Is this aspect done in 3ds max, sapien?

Thanks in advance for the help guys. Have a good one.

Are you talking about the actual waterfall, or the spray cloud? I don't have any experience with 3DS but I'm pretty sure the waterfall is a modeled part of the BSP, and the mist comes from a scenery marker that has an invisible model and emits a particle effect. This was used a good lot in a30 at the bottom of waterfalls.

like xnx said the particle is just scenery, you can't see it in sapien but you'll se it ingame. The actual waterfall geometry is composed of two parts, rapid moving water and then also a second model. The rapid moving water isn't really necessary, but its done in a30. The second model is the one that actually looks like a waterfall... it uses a special bitmap that moves down and tiles only from top to bottom. The less you stretch it out on the model's uv, the faster it will look liek its moving.

In a30 they use the regular water shader with a mask to make it look as if the water is pouring down, then blending away with that second model, which is basically the base. At least if my memory servers me correct, anyway (in essence, it makes a smoother transition to the base waterfall from the regular water/stream). I've ripped the bsp a bunch of times and always dissected it for the waterfall geometry.

Thanks guys for the replies, and the water cloud is what I was seeking.

I'm curious to what is it called, and where is it located.

open timberland in guerilla and look for waterfall_spray_emitter_small
that's the waterfall spray for that map.

Thanks guys, appreciate the pointers.

Prepare for a new update / schedule for Eternal very soon, as the error has been fixed & work has resumed!
