I don't really make weapons sounds. But I can tell you that the reason your custom sounds are cutting off other sounds is probably because you are compiling them as WAV
and if you're using actual recording equipment to make the sounds. I don't recommend using actual gun sounds as gun sounds, It would just sound like a loud cap-gun, even with powered mics >_< Edited by OrangeJuice on Jul 17, 2013 at 04:25 PM

Impulse sounds should be 22khz mono. 44khz and/or stereo impulse sounds behave strangely and can do anything from not attenuating correctly to cutting each other off as you noticed. Compile with xbox compression if you have the xbox adpcm codec installed (though in my experience this is a huge pain on anything after windows xp), otherwise use ogg compression. I think wav works sometimes?
Some sounds compiled with the ogg codec can make the game crash when the play - I don't know why or how to fix that unfortunately. However in the vast majority of cases so far it has worked fine for me. You may need to get the latest ogg/vorbis dll files and stick them in your HCE folder to successfully compile sounds with ogg compression. Edited by teh lag on Jul 17, 2013 at 04:37 PM
