Done via HUD tags (Multilex overlays)
No OS was used. (could probably be done better with it though, ask Kirby)

I did this just to prove that it could be done without modeled planes and animated shaders, but this still isn't really practical for actual use.

No it is, but it still doesn't turn red or display actual error, although it's much closer due to the heat system.

Actually, there isn't a plane modeled on the weapon. I did these using the (scarcely looked at) multi-lex overlays section of the weapon_hud_interface tag, similar to the sniper rifle's zoom tick things (that gearbox broke.)

I probably wouldn't use this myself for any map though, these don't turn red when looking at an enemy (since technically it's not a crosshair).

I synced up the error recovery times, error angles, maximum reticle expansion, and heat times to match each other very closely, meaning that the reticles do infact, represent the gun error angles (or at least very close to them)

TL;DR

It's really the same thing as the plane\shader animation method, just a different way of achieving it.

Actually, Chocolate Thunda would need to make them, and besides, these don't work too well for practical use anyway.

And Masterz clearly doesn't like it, for good reason.

Just to clarify (because I'm stupid) when you say sniper tics, do you mean this?

Couldn't it be used to make a compass?

Were you able to make it so it didn't disappear when you look at a certain angle or direction?

E: Ignore that^
