Regions and permutations. That textbox in max in the top tool bar, type in that to make regions. Permutations are multiple JMS files. ~damaged.JMS is a special one automatically associated to damage, etc.

the model 'characters\halo3gruntbykiller5000' and the collision model 'characters\grunt\grunt' don't match (node counts don't match)

Your error explains itself, you have different nodes in the model than in the collision. Either make a new collision, or use the correct nodes.

Just type in the textbox, and hit enter to assign. You can also hit the button beside it to create/alter/select regions.

Why the heck would a photographer buy multi thousand dollar cameras and equipment?

Not true, a ton of indie movie maker use it for special effects, Freddie Wong for one i know does. And who says he couldn't have been doing some exploration into something he was interested in, just because someone has a job doesn't mean they can't have a hobby.

He could have also been using it to make two dimensional renders. Like i said, he could have taken an interest in it. I for one know several older gentlemen that have taken interest in the 3d art program I've been using. And who's to say that he didn't loose interest in it and pass it down to his grandson? I'm not saying that's what happened, i just like using the logic of the encounters i've had in my life to rebuttal. Lol.

I can understand some attraction to virtual photography using digital lights and cameras, but Max is not primarily a rendering software. There are plenty of programs that specialize in that which cost far less.

And before you say, "well he might not have been knowledgeable of the other options!" unless grandpappy is an idjit he'd research alternatives before plunking down 3k bucks.

Maybe he did, and he wasn't satisfied with said alternatives.
