Halo Status, a live/real-time Halo server status script

I'm not allowed to post images here yet so preview image one and preview image two.

I wanted a Halo server status script a while back and couldn't find any half-decent ones so I decided to put my own together and use it as a chance to have a toy with Javascript and jQuery.

This has been sitting on my machine for a very long time, waiting for other Halo projects to be completed that would have given the script access to more statistics to go on the tabs. Since there's a chance that said projects will never see the light of day, I've decided to just release the script as is rather than let it go to waste.

Features:

  • Real-time (well, close enough) updating.

  • A degree of animation.

  • Sound cues for certain events (scoring, for example).

  • Supports all player/game flags.

  • Zombies support.

  • A fairly flexible query/parsing script that you could use to for your own scripts (server information signatures, for example). IP/port go in, associative array comes out.

Demo:

Direct link example: http://osvex.com/halostatus/#s=46.249.47.12:2332

There's further information and an extended F.A.Q. in the readme.txt if anybody actually wishes to make use of it.

Download here. - ~15mb as it has PSDs included, minus the one for the main design (forever lost).

Not bad, not bad.
You might want to host all css and js locally instead of using GAPI's though. GAPI is terribly slow. Also, your javascript could be optimized a bit.

Yeah, I don't doubt it. Is there anything in particular you think is poorly optimised? ;)

As for using Google to host jQuery, I would ordinarily agree, although not on the grounds of it being slow; I've never encountered speed issues with their CDN.

Please don't autoplay sound (e.g. I almost crapped my pants when it said "Capture the Flag"), autoplay is terrible no matter where you use it, I may suggest having sound off by default and having the user enable it with a button?

It's a nice webapp, I'd always wanted to make something similar but never spent the time. Good work!

That was originally the plan but I suppose I never got around to it. This is the first time I've broken the golden rule of not playing audio but at the same time, I don't believe it's much of an issue in this case.
