Hello everyone! ^_^
I've seen on the forum that no one has created a H2-H3 Cortana, and the Halo CE Cortana was ugly IMO, so I've tried making a new Cortana!

Basicly I've just lengthened the hair of the original Cortana model and reskinned it. Yes, I know her hair sucks, but unluckily I couldn't obtain something better :( The original bitmap was very dark and was almost invisible, the new one has some tiling issues but has the correct color. I've tried recoloring the original bitmap, but it became an ugly, bright pink! >.<

This is my first modified tag, tell me what you think. Critiques are welcome, since I can just learn :)

P.S. It is huge in the pics because I've used the object_set_scale command. The model uses the original cortana.model_animations tag, and is completely compatible for the campaign ;)

good job with the body, but the face needs some work imo. but you're doing a great job, nobody ever modifies the ugly h1 cortana!

Yes, I know that the face is weird... it is a model problem, because the H2 version and the Halo CE version have a completely different geometry (Am I the only one here that has noted that Cortana's cheeks are sunken in Halo CE? o.O), so there are some texture issues. I didn't want to just change the colour of the original texture, I'll try to obtain a better result, expecially for the hair... they still look out of place :/

Nice job dude, the hair will always be a problem, long as the H1 anims are used. The CE model of her always reminded me of some sort of goblin.

oh wow... i didn't even realize until you said it but her cheeks ARE sunken! eek!

and is it me or does she look creepy as heck when she's green with yellow eyes?

I think the same thing :S but honestly I think she's scarier during the rampancy in Halo 4.
By the way, I've made some fixing ^_^
The hair now fits the colour of the body, and I've fixed the face: there were some problems with the mouth, the eyes and the nose. I've also made the glyphs brighter, in the first screenshots they were almost invisible. Moreover, I've found the problem for the hair: their shader is drawn before the body, so it doesn't make it visible under the hair. I don't know if it's possible to change the order of the shaders, but this is as much as I can do :(

I'm going to go ahead and say that the Halo 3 Cortana model is the same as the one in Reach. But I wouldn't mind someone proving me wrong. I'm curious.

I don't see fire anywhere on them.

And the Reach Cortana is quite small.

You can't really see all the details, like the dark markings.

That's looking REALLY good! The face looks so much better.


and lol... i thought she was kinda hot in halo 4. but the rampancy was freaky at best, you're right

That's like saying the Halo: Reach elites looked fine with the Halo: CE boneset.

I honestly can't play Halo: CEA with the "updated" graphics. The classic version works, the new version does not. I'm honestly disappointed with Saber Interactive because they could have done so much better. They just slapped things together, sometimes more haphazardly than a few in this community.

No... There engine uses a graphic overlay type thing. If you notice, in some of the updated cutscenes, fingers move, more cheek bones, mouth, etc

Why? the animations looked fine to me.

and i dont think they "just slapped things together haphazardly". they took the time to re-model every bsp while keeping them to scale with the originals, they took the time to Mo-Cap all the cutscenes, they took the time to re-do the sounds, and they took time to model that AWESOME mark V model for the chief. they spent like two years on it, so this doesnt make sense to me.

I know :( As Masters1337 has already said, the hair will always look bad unless I use a completely new model. But now she looks ALMOST like in H2...
About those models, the point is that I'm absolutely horrible at rigging... If I had been good at it, I would have rigged the H2 model. Moreover, Cortana doesn't have a normal boneset: she has lots of bones for her body and her face to give them facial expressions. Rigging a new model with that boneset would be a kick in the *** =[
And about the textures, for my Cortana I've used the H2 textures adapting them on the original one. The point isn't which texture I'm using, but WHICH MODEL they're used on.

And... Banshee64, can you tell me how did you make my screenshots visible? I can't do it...

And you'll notice that the collision of the updated environments doesn't match the collision of the old environments. Sometimes they even threw in collision that never existed. Sure is fun running into an invisible wall from time to time.

Besides, I was mainly referring to reusing the models from previous games. The original elites have long necks. The ones they used, the ones from Halo: Reach, have a more squat-necked appearance. It makes the model look ridiculous. Same thing applies to the jackals .

Wow, motion capture. That would be cool if they cleaned it up a bit. The past few Halo titles have had good examples of motion captured cinematics. These just kind of looks meh to me. Everyone seems like a puppet rather than a human being (to say nothing of the original cinematics would be bad, so here it is: they looked like puppets too, but that was a decade prior). How many other releases were there in 2011? The cinematics weren't... up to par with most of them in my opinion.

I'm dissatisfied with a lot of the weapon sounds. Only a few strike me as good. Also, certain pieces of music are badly recreated too. Listen to "Rock in a Hard Place" and you'll know what I mean.

The new Chief armor may be the only thing I will defend in this game, but it isn't enough to make me root for the updated visuals.

Don't get me wrong, what they did was cool and everything, but I just don't prefer what they did over the original content.

lol, duke nukem forever was in dev for over a decade. needless to say, it proved that being in dev for a long time doesn't help.

you have some good points, the invisible walls are annoying and some of the music is lacking, but i still think overall they did a good job remastering it.

watching the cutscenes: is it just me, or does the chief seem to constantly look over his shoulder a lot? it's like he's paranoid. when blob keyes is in front of him he's more interested in the nonexistant people following him around.

oh yeah, sure. i'm not altheros always arguing with people. i thought you had some good points. i quickly went back into anniversary to take a look at the elites, and you're right, their necks are kinda wierd although i still think the game is quite good, except for 343 guilty spark. when you're in new graphics it looks like a pretty, magical forest instead of a scary swamp.

and yes, i hated duke nukem forever XD

Hey there I read your forum and here is another cortana you should do please. Halo 4 cortana because she is perfect in that game which is also a good idea for hce, since she is like a ugly teenager on junk. Please make halo 4 cortana for all cortana fans.
