There's another forum on this site for halo 2 vista
Therefore, it works on windows 7 because vista is pretty much a really buggy version of windows 7. Edited by Cheddars on Oct 4, 2012 at 08:43 AM

i think you need to run it on vista compatibility mode, so right click on halo2.exe (or what halo 2 vista is called, can't remember), go to tab called "compatibility" and then select "vista compatibility mode" from the drop down list.

Maybe we should ask how exactly H2V isn't working for him before we start providing solutions...
Anyway, @OP what do you mean by it not working? Did H2V install fine without any error messages? What is your install process (ie. did you use a actual disk or an ISO)? What happens when you run the H2V exe? We need more info here.

Glad to see you got it working Dean. Additionally, you will want to go through your routers admin settings and port forward all the required Live service and H2V ports so as you don't run into much of a problem when playing over Live. It sounds silly, but a lot of people who don't know how to forward ports, end up not seeing or being able to play on most of the hosted servers.
Now that you have things worked out, might I suggest you check out a lot of our teams excellent and high quality H2MT released maps.
