A self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility

Hey guys,

Working on an awesome new fire effect, however I have noticed that in multiplayer, the damage effect has no owner as it is spawned by an effect - if you get killed by it, you just get the 'player x died' dialogue. I'd ideally like the damage and any kills caused by it to be attributed to a player - is there any way around this/something I've missed?

Cheers.

Can you have an invisible ai constantly shooting the effect? This can change the name to killed by the guardians, however this text is editable as it is located inside one of the unicode string lists. The downside is that you can only have one message for the "guardians".

Does it matter if AI can sync online or not? The fire is in one place. It's not like the invisible ai is going to move around. And to think that people would follow kirby's progresses with vehicles and ai syncing. I'm not stupid ya know :(

Hmm. That's one possibility but I'd like it to be able to be attributed to different players. Think of it more like a fire bomb than an environmental hazard. I'll test this out anyhow, but would it work if the fire (the impact_dirt effect) generates a series of projectiles rather like the flamethrower, and they cause the damage? A bit more random and difficult to control, but I assume they are capable of being 'owned' by the player?
