So it has probably been 5 years since I have made a map.

What is new in map making. I have downloaded Open Sauce, havnt got around to playing with it yet.

What else is new and essential in map making these days?

I would strongly recommend against chimp and bluestreak. See my recent posts, I just talked about this in another thread. Blitzkrieg is far superior imo, and is compatible with Max 8, plus it has shorter export times.

As far as tools, I would definitely get Kornman's updated HEK. I use ahobov102 (sapien replacement, it should come in the zip with kornmanv102 (guerilla replacement)). He also has kornmanv2.0, but I've had lots of trouble getting that to run due to some weird problems regarding .dll's and I honestly can't tell what's different about it, so v102 is fine. There's also HEK+, but besides the updated HEK, Max 8, and Photoshop, there's not much else I use. I haven't been able to get OS working for me, so I don't know anything about it.

Dont believe I have used blitzkrieg before, just bluestreak.
TheGhost is kind of a dick, so ill give blitzkrieg a try.

I think the version Autodesk gave me is 2011, would have to check.
Will have to trial 8.

Yea, 3ds max 8 and blitzkrieg are the best way to go.

I could never get 3ds max 8 to work on windows 7 for some reason. Maniac however does have it working, but I don't know how.

The download for max 8 on modacity is broken. Either I'm missing some darned DLL file or it just refuses to install to begin with.

which .dll?

Render your lightmaps in 3ds max, Halo's lightmapping sucks.

that .dll installs as part of the 3ds max8 software, so i have no idea how you
don't have the file if you tried to install 3ds max8.

edit: also i doubt there is much point in me sending the file as i'm on a different os to you, so
you would need to know where the file should go.

What installer are you running? one labeled 3dsmax, or the one labeled setup?
