I noticed this almost straight away. Your sniper, is the same as the Nerf Longstrike. There is practically no difference. And I mean it. My brother knows it; he looked over my shoulder, and said "Hey, that's a longstrike!"

You should maybe add in a few more weapons. I would love to see a hand-held minigun, like the warthog's turret or the Halo 3 turret. Or the H:Reach turret. Not those weapons, but loosely those. It would fit in the long-area.

wow, that is quite similar. But it actually isn't the same. It will look more different when I make the 3d model.

I think 7 weapons + a secret weapon are enough for this map, It will definately take me a while just to get all of these made. So I don't think we will be adding any more However... If you REALLY want to see a particular gun in this map, than submit a design for the contest. That is what it is meant for.

We have gone ahead a chosen the end date of the contest. The contest will end July 25. We will then review all valid submissions and determine whose weapon submission wins. So get your submissions in while there is still plenty of time.

There is only one placeholder white texture applied to the entire BSP right now. We have not even started creating textures, so don't worry the textures will come later.

Also, we will be working on a custom sky pretty soon. (although I am not NEARLY as good at skys as lumoria, lol)

ANNOUNCEMENT

Our design contest ended on July 25th and we are now ready to "officially" announce the winner.

We recieved severall good submissions, and after looking through them we narrowed it down to two. The "Impetus" designed by Echo77 and "Grunt Launcher 5000" designed by P3.

because of the gameplay issues of having the Grunt Launcher as a common part of gameplay we were about to pick the Impetus as our winner... but we decided we could not resist making the Grunt Launcher. SO, we are going to make both. The Impetus will be placed in the secret room that we had planned out for the contest weapon, it will be hidden but not so hidden that it is rarely used. The Grunt Launcher on the other hand will be placed in a new, more secure location so that it will be more difficult to find and use too often in gameplay.

Congrats to Echo77 and P3 for winning our contest, I would like to discuss each of your designs with you as I create them to get any ideas/input ya'll have on the way it should work. If you use xfire feel free to add me Yoda73811 If you do not use xfire then I will simply PM you here on halomaps.

We plan to update soon with some map progress as well as a 3d version of at least one of these weapons.

UPDATE

We have not really posted much progress lately. Work on the map was slow for a while, but now with the weapons design contest finished work has picked up again.

I have quite a bit of progress to show ya'll this time, so lets start with the skybox. I still have some work to do on it, and I have to decide what all I want to put up there, but the "centerpeice" (or whatever you want to call it) is just about finished.

Next up is scenery. I have been working on some scenery to be placed around the map to make things more interesting and add some cover. The first peice is a roadblock that will be very useful for cover as well as helping us to block off one or two areas that we don't want people going. The next to pictures are two different crates, just to be used as cover and basic clutter for the map.

Last, but certainly not least, I have almost completed the model for one of our design contest winners. Echo77's Impetus.

Stay tuned for more updates in the near future. Jawa is wrapping up some BSP progress and hopefully soon we be showing these new assets in the map along with jawas latest work.

@Echo77: Since I am working on your design first I would appreciate any input/feedback you have on the model that I showed, and also any advice as to how the weapon should function. (after you calm down and stop throwing money at your screen of course :D )

Wait a second, quick question for you Yoda, is the grunt launcher a Plasma Cannon that launches grunts like frag grenades?

Thank you. :D

It seems pretty close, as near as I can tell. It just needs the hammer. As far as function goes, I think I summed it up in my initial submission.

Quote: --- Original message by: Echo77
A retro revolver for the adventurous space bounty hunter, the "Impetus" utilizes a Metal Storm system in place of traditional firing methods. Each cylinder is pre-loaded with an electronically-ignited caseless high-caliber round. The "hammer" serves as the weapon's mag release: pulling back will allow the chamber to be removed from the weapon and replaced with another pre-loaded cylinder. Standard model features an integrated flashlight and is compatible with a variety of optics, such as the red dot sight. The flashlight can be exchanged for an underbarrel 12-gauge shotgun, using the same Metal Storm system to fire up to three shells before reloading (shells are inserted through the bottom, and their caseless nature negates the need for an ejection port).

Essentially, a fast-firing semi-auto revolver, with the potential to be used as a handheld short-range scattergun, if you feel the need to replace the flashlight with the underbarrel 12 Gauge.

No, it's a grunt on top of a sliding launch pad that launches a grunt at your face. :)

That is a question for P3, not for me as it is his design.

As far as I can tell it functions basically like the nuke launcher in fallout 3. Except it is ejecting a grunt instead of a small nuke. :D

@Echo77: the weapons in this map were intended to use the secondary fire for iron sights, so if you have no objections I would like to use it to look through the holographic sight you have mounted on it. (meaning no underbarrel weapon).

Also, I had a question for you. (do not feel obligated in any way to accept this, its just a thought)

The one thing that bothers me about your design is the idea of using the hammer to release the cylinder. I am a bit of a gun nut, and that just seems wrong to me, lol. So I was wondering if you are familiar with the Smith & Wesson Bodygaurd? It is a modern, hammerless revolver designed for concealed carry. One of the more interesting features of it is the cylinder release. Instead of having it on the side like a traditional revolver, it has a small "slider" (for lack of a better word) where the hammer would generally be. You push the "slider" up to release the cylinder and reload the revolver. Would you be okay with me doing that instead of using the hammer to release the cylinder?

Again, please don't feel compelled to agree to that, I am perfectly willing to do it your way if that is what you want. I just wanted to let you know of a realistic alternative. Just let me know what you decide and I will act accordingly. Thanks.

Yeah, the underbarrel flashlight/shotgun was just something I added to give you an added degree of flexibility with the weapon. Having the red dot be functional would be much cooler, I think.

The hammer = mag release was just a last-minute excuse I came up with, because I'd designed the weapon a long time ago before really thinking about the functionality of it. When I decided it should be Metal Storm, I still had that hammer there. A slider-operated mag release would make much more sense, so I'd be all for that idea.

I actually made Ronon's gun (which is called a "particle magnum" btw) one time for halo. It was quite a while back though. It would be fun to do it again sometime. But obviously not for Deadlock, I would have to make a stargate atlantis map for that :D

back when jawa and I first began to learn about halo modding we had this grand idea about making a map of the City of Atlantis (not the entire interior, but all the major areas). We had actually modelled huge portions of the city, but eventually learned that our models had far to many errors to be used in-game. The project basically died, but I did begin modelling the exterior of atlantis again later, just for fun... but maybe we will eventually complete the project.

We have always been huge StarGate fans... so maybe we will do another stargate map after this (no promises... but maybe)

Hey, sry we have been so silent for so long. Work on the project is progressing steadily, but slowly. Jawa and I are both extremely busy with real life atm, and I am preparing for a big beta in another project (HaloStarWars).

HOWEVER, I intend to update the thread sometime in the next couple of days. I am hoping to have a completed model for the grunt launcher for the update :D as well as some other renders and info on the BSP progress.

So if you don't mind, please respond to this comment so that I can post the update without having to worry about the double post rule, lol.

UPDATE

First off we would like to apologize for being so silent for so long, we appreciate anyone who is still interested in this map and hopefully we will be able to regain the interest of anyone who had given up on us.

Progress has been slow and we are very busy with real life, but we have no intention of giving up. So, now to show ya'll some of what we have done since the lat update.

First off I have modelled the Blue assault rifle:

Obviously that is not very exciting, since it is so similar to the blue smg, but I am happy to have it modelled. Getting it textured, animated, and in-game should not be too difficult. I intend to get that done very soon and move on to the red team weapons.

Next up is a biped update. Bad news is that we have decided we are not going to do multiple helmet permutations after all. It would be cool, but it would also be difficult, time consuming, and unnecessary. The good news is that the biped is now fully modelled.

Although it may not be the most spectacular biped ya'll have ever seen it is my first ever attemp at modelling a biped, and I wanted to be able to rig it to master chiefs bones, so that has something to do with the slightly strange proportions. It is not textured, but I have applied materials to show roughly how it will be textured.

Last but certainly not least I have made some progress on the GRUNT LAUNCHER 5000!!!!!

I still have a little way to go on the model (obviously the grun itself is not there yet) but I think it is beginning to shape up nicely. We would appreciate any input from the designer P3 on our progress on this.

That is pretty much it for now, we have some more progress on the BSP but are not quite ready to show it. Hopefully you can expect an update from jawa regarding that soon.

Please let us know what you think of it all comments, criticizm, advice, insults, whatever you want to say (so long as it has to do with the project )

I am not really sure I want to do that. If you can recommend some improvements to the armor then I will consider them, but otherwise I think it is complete.

I would rather finish it (or at least everything but the grunt) and then send it to you for approval. It wont take me long, I can probably finish up the launcher part today or tomorrow. Then I will send it to you, is that fine?

On a side note, if you choose to modify the model I may or may not actually use your version. I may make your modifications to my own version of the model simply because I have not had good luck in the past working with other people's modelling work.

The whole top thing with the handle is suppose to be able to move (sort of like a launch pad thingy) Fix the back to not be so boxy, Don't go by everything that the concept looks like. (Like the pole that is tilted to the handle on the bottom. You can add what ever other small details to it too if you want.

I already knew about the "launch pad" part, I was assuming that it would fire by suddenly sliding that thing (with the grunt riding on it) forward. Right now the model is unfinished and unsmoothed so don't worry to much.
