I played on a custom built PC that I spent months researching to determine the best way to spend my cash.
i5-2400 EVGA GTX 550 Ti 8GB RAM 500GB HDD Other stuff GIGANTIC CASE (didn't realize I bought full ATX...)
I forced VSYNC to prevent Halo from playing around 300 fps, so I'm going to guess my machine is more than capable of handling a50.map. I did play it, and I thought it was cool, so I know my machine can handle it. I have a resource gadget that plots out resource usage; RAM was around 60%, I think. I had Outlook 2010 and Chrome open at the time, I think. Nothing else aside from various services.

*Invisible facepalm of EpicNess!* My facepalm's cooler than yours... Anyway, yeah, seriously Gonzo, that is NOT the best way to spend your cash. Spend another few months researching the best way to spend your cash again...

Anyway, yeah, seriously Gonzo, that is NOT the best way to spend your cash. ...stuff... Spend another few months researching the best way to spend your cash again... Yeah, um, pretty sure this is a forum for Halo CE, not debates on how to best spend one's cash on computer components. I spent my money in a manner that I felt was best, and given that it was my money, I believe it is mine to spend in any manner I choose. I opted for a quality graphics card at an inexpensive price as my budget may not be as phenomenal as yours. If you don't like EVGA (or NVIDIA, if you're not thrilled with their products), that's fine. Don't lose your horses because someone else purchased one of their products. As I said, I did months of research on all my components before settling on a purchase. Price, customer reviews, and hardware/software options and design all contributed to my decision, not simply a big number in the card name and a small price. If you have any advice as to how I can rectify my OS issue short of revisiting your dislike of EVGA, I'm all ears. That's what I posted for.

Did you try running the .map file and using the specific OS features it can use? Quote: -No Open Sauce/.Map version: Basic mod
-Open Sauce/.Map version: Basic mod, normal mapping, phong lighting, postprocessing effects
-Open Sauce/.Yelo version: Basic mod, normal mapping, phong lighting, postprocessing effects, VISR mode, dynamic Battle Rifle behavior, enhanced CMT Extras menu, assorted easter-eggs Try doing those settings that are in bold, if they work then it's not OS's fault and maybe your laptop was overheating at the time, I've found that when graphic cards get too hot it can hinder the game (especially in halo2 if your graphcis card over heats it'll have massive fps drops and scenes will loop and loop, then eventually go to a white or black screen, and if you play in windowed mode the window will flash like it's priority then go to background then back to priority) So I'm still going to believe either your graphics card over heated or you had too many process runnign in the background. Also make sure xfire is closed, IDK why but it doesn't work with OS installed simultaneously

I have a desktop. My case keeps things pretty cool, so I doubt my card overheated. If I were running Halo on my Macbook Pro, then yes, it would eat my system up. I can barely play Halo 2 at minimum settings.
I believe I used the Open Sauce/.map version as you bolded. But this doesn't reveal anything about why F7 does not activate the in-game menu.

I saw another thread which had members claiming that F7 brought up some kind of OS in-game menu for changing settings. Perhaps that applies to a different extension, or simply does not exist. In either case, I am too uneducated in the ways of OS-ness to know. I made an assumption, so I suppose the sensible thing to do is to get ump-ed by the tion.
Fresh Prince reference
EDIT: I reinstalled and redownloaded OS and the maps, respectively. I can't play either now. Both produce the same situation: gradual cycling through the opening cinematic with no video. My RAM usage remains consistent at 44%, though an interesting pattern occurs with Core 4: it oscillates with respect to the looping. This only occurs with Core 4. The remaining cores are at random minimal usage.
I consoled pp_tab and it produced a list of commands as expected; v3.0.3 sits in the lower left corner of the UI. Not sure what the issue is.
EDIT EDIT: The cycle seems to repeat every 3 seconds, slowly advancing through the cutscene. Slowly. The Core 4 usage oscillates about every 6 seconds. Edited by CAG Gonzo on Mar 14, 2012 at 08:42 PM Edited by CAG Gonzo on Mar 14, 2012 at 08:45 PM

That solved it. Never occurred me to set affinity. Thanks! Now to test this bad boy out.
EDIT: It's not the affinity, it's my 360 controller! I set the affinity but also forgot to turn on my controller. With all 4 cores, the map loads fine so long as my controller is off. I would not have suspected my controller was the problem. Very disappointing; I don't want to learn mouse and keyboard. Edited by CAG Gonzo on Mar 14, 2012 at 09:16 PM

Wireless, plugged into a USB 3.0 port for the hell of it. I can try different ports to see if it changes.

Hm. I'll switch to a 2.0 port and see what happens. I tried mouse and keyboard for a bit...I suck at it. Plus my keyboard lagged for some reason, which worries me, because I LITERALLY got it yesterday to replace another keyboard that randomly lagged in random programs.
