To put it simply, I injected a custom skin by Jackle (the author, according to the readme) a few years back into HaloPC (not Custom Edition) to test it out. Now, I got tired of the skin and wanted the original skin back in the game.

Tried replacing the original bitmaps.map with the injected one; didn't work. Tried reinstall via repair; didn't work. Tried reinstall (by uninstalling); didn't work. Tried replacing using Custom's bitmaps; didn't work.

So, suggestions?

I can't clearly understand... this is Halo Custom Edition?

No. I applied the skin onto Halo: Combat Evolved (HaloPC, aka the non-custom), not Halo Custom Edition. Thought it was clear enough from the "what did not work" paragraph. :/

Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling?

Browse through the CD and in the maps folder, locate bitmaps.map and copy it from the CD directory to the C: drive directory.

This forum is only for Halo Custom Edition.

It's a general question. Plus, it's a valid question as someone else might experience this in Halo Custom Edition.

Never tried browsing from the CD. I'll take a look and see if it works.

Uninstall it, use cc cleaner, and remove everything halo-related. Then, Reinstall and see if it works. If it doesnt, do a system restore as that works all the time.

Did all those, even to the extent to using regedit path. And system restore doesn't work. :/

Gargh, should never injected a skin into the map file. =_="

Have you gone to other forums to ask? Maybe they've got the answers we don't.

Except for the fact that this was actually caused by something used in Halo 1 modding. Not Halo CE.

i can't upload mine right now, maybe someone else can upload thiers for you,
btw if you followed the tutorial closely it would have told you at the top to back your .bitmaps folder up before making changes.
same goes here on ce, some guys end up having to reinstall hek, all because they didn't keep a backup of thier folders.
the folder you need is 302mb, my net is far to busy right now to be able to upload that for you sorry man.

I know what you mean, but Dennis probably won't.
The fact that the topic was not locked should have given you a small clue as to what I might have thought.

As to the original poster. You say you uninstalled and re installed the Halo PC game but the modifications you made are still there then you obviously have not fully uninstalled the game. run the uninstall again then check to be sire that there are no files in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo folder. While looking at it be sure to check compatibility files if you are running windows 7 because you may have saved the new bitmaps.map file in the compatibility files section and not directly in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo folder especially if you did not have correct security credentials. The un-install routine may not have removed it.

Running Vista Home Premium, so don't think there is such compatibility files in the computer. Also deleted the entire folder from Program Files (even making sure there are no hidden files) and from registry via regedit. Did every step discussed in this thread. Nothing.

I guess my CD is corrupted then. How a skin-mod corrupted a CD is beyond me. :/

Gonna check Modacity...

Yes that is where the compatibility files are located.
