Hell what you guys could do for example is, if you ever get around to making human and jaffa bipeds, is make a simple SP mission. Enter through the gate, intense firefight at gate, move inland a bit, retrieve something, make your way back to the gate...could be awesome :)

That is the idea. I am currently testing out a method for making an esthetically pleasing trip through the stargate. Btw, you really need to watch both sg-1 and Atlantis.

Yea, we have actually been thinking about that lately. We definately want to make a SP mission at some point, but recently we have been thinking maybe sooner rather than later. Unfortunately we don't know how to do SP missions. If you would like to recommend a good tutorial or two we may consider it more seriously.

@Tiel: If you are a sci-fi fan AT ALL (which I am assuming your are since you are on a Halo mapping forum) then you should really watch AT LEAST the original stargate movie. Then you should watch Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.

We're going to whip up a huge SP (video) tutorial after lumoria is done, but in the meantime you can check out Gamma's thread in the technical discussion subforum concerning all sorts of AI related stuff :)

That will be awesome. I find video tutorials to be the easiest to follow.

In that case, I figure we will probably make another multiplayer map or two untill ya'll make that tutorial, then (if jawa agrees) we will probably make a SP Stargate mission.

Take a look at this map:

http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=524

Perhaps in a future map you could do the same thing, having the humans spawn in the cheyenne mountain complex then go through the stargate into the heat of battle

Got around to playing it as promised, I'd say my previous comments mostly apply but I'll sum it up for convenience:

- Cool custom stargate and ruins scenery (although I find the ruins texture a bit bland)
- Fantastic custom weapons that have that typical stargate feel to them!
- But unfortunately the quality of the BSP itself is a bit lacking, including the texture of the grass is very blurry, you guys should also add detail objects such as small grass sprites in the future :)

So yeah, as I said this kind of stuff has great SP potential in the future!

The ruins are a little bland, but the served their purpose. I personally think that jawa did an excelent job on the stargate scenery object (it came out really awesome imo).

Thanks for the compliment on the weapons. I was hoping to get the stargate feel down properly.

The BSP is jawa's job not mine. But I was wondering, how do you get somthing that big textured without making it blurry? I do weapons, so my first thought when texturing is to unwrap it, but if you unwrap it then you wouldn't be able to get it high rez enough right?? So do you just carfully apply textures to different parts and tile them?

oh, and btw. We both agree with you about the SP potential. We are both looking forward to your tutorial after lumoria.

Your link is kinda messed up (the link seems to be copied in twice) but I copied and pasted the right part and found the map.

Dennis actually mentioned that map early on in the thread. I have played it, and it was pretty cool. We are planned to do somthing like that. I don't think we will be using the SGC yet, because we are thinking about doing a Stargate Atlantis themed map next (since we just did SG-1). But when we get around to the single player mission it will probably include the SGC.

You really need a new ground texture, otherwise cool.

For the ground texture, or all the textures, trying bumping them up a minium of at least 512x512 px. For the ground texture, 1024x1024 px would probably suffice. You can also increase the detail greatly by using detail maps and increasing how much it tiles.

I'm by no means a Stargate expert, but I do enjoy watching the show on a casual basis. Of course, my recollection of specifics is a bit hazy. So these ideas aren't so much suggestions as, "These are things that I remember observing at some point." So they might be good for gameplay, they might not. But maybe they'll be helpful, if not a bit vague.

•In the human base's Star Gate room, they have a pair of big turrets guarding the portal from things that might be trying to get in. This is camping in its most obvious form, so it probably wouldn't be a great gameplay addition. But do they ever use those turrets anywhere else? That might make a good emplaced weapon for the humans.

•I think the "bad guys" had a big support weapon that was like a heavy oversized zap staff. Like an emplaced turret sorta thing. So if you added the human turrets, these might be a decent counterpart.

•There was that big mercenary dude with the pistol on Star Gate Atlantis. I forget his name, but he was with that chick. Maybe his gun could be used?

•There were some episodes where they found those guys that used ballistic weapons. They had the big underground place and disguised themselves as farmers on the surface so people would think they were less technologically advanced than they were. I think the Star Gate guys gave them C4 to clear a tree stump.... But in any case, I'd like to see a level with those guys. They had a bunch of different kinds of weapons, so that might be something for people who want a bit more variety in gunplay. I think there was a triple-barreled shotgun, some primitive assault weapons, things of that nature. And of course, that'd let you throw in a few more human weapons.

Yeah, it's all a bit rambley, but hopefully you get the gist.

Those turrets might be seen one or two more times throughout the series in places like the alpha site, but I don't remember for sure. But since they are shown in the series at the SGC we can speculate that they would have been used at other locations.

Yes, the Jaffa occasionally used Staff Turrets. They are basically just ground based versions of the weapons mounted on death gliders. We think that they would be very good for later maps.

The "big mercenary dude" is Ronan Dex. He was from a world called Seteda and his gun was FREAKING AWESOME. In fact his gun was so awesome that it would be WAY overpowered for a halo map. We were thinking it might make a good secret weapon for a later map.

Those guys are called the Genii. I have always liked their weapons, they are somewhat primitive compared to human weapons, but they were designed to kill wraith... so they are really powerful. I would love to do a map with Genii vs Wraith, or even Genii vs SG members.

I appreciate the clarification, and I'm even more enthused that my ideas weren't as dumb as they seemed in my head.

Yeah, Ronan, that was his name. What was so overpowered about his pistol? It would make sense as a secret weapon, I think, considering it seems to be his personal sidearm. I never noticed another race carrying them.

And I would love to play a Genii map. Perhaps their weapons could be more powerful compared to the SG member weaponry, at the cost of possessing a slower rate of fire and/or reduced accuracy? I can't remember seeing them actually fire the weapons, so I'm not sure how accurate that would be in relation to the series. And with them being more primitive, perhaps they could be more prone to malfunction? Maybe even misfiring/jamming after prolonged fire.

This is the reason that Ronan's gun (which is a particle magnum btw) is overpowered. Also, it is the only weapon in the series capable of killing a wraith in one shot.

There actually was a race that showed up eventually that used those handguns, but they were never a major part of the series and they kept them to themselves.

The Genii weapons were also used by the Setedans in several flash backs, and you get to see them firing a lot in that episode. The tri-barrel rifles (they actually were not shotguns) were lever action rifles that fired three high caliber rounds at a time and were fairly accurate, but very slow firing. There were also submaching guns that were high caliber but very low accuracy. And then there were two different types of handgun, on slide action semi-auto handgun (which was awesome) and another that looked sorta like a small sawed off double barrel shotgun (which was not as awesome).

(the tri-barrel rifles actually sorta alternated between lever action and pump action, but they were always rifles. I liked the lever action better.)

EDIT: I made a quick video for each of the weapons in the map (except the secret weapon) and uploaded to youtube.
