That's odd, especially considering Rec0's app recorded about half (iirc) that over the course of 6ish years, and all you need to do is open the server list and compare the 1.00ce to the 1.09ce page (which is mostly pirates anyway playing on 1.09 servers) and compare the player counts.

Just CE is currently 2,339 total Just PC is currently 9,840 total ----------------------------------- Which is 12,179 total, subtract the 11,749 and we have 430 cross players.
This is only based on the server that are being tracked by HaloRank. Overall I would say enough players to keep playing with, even when the pirates fade away.
I'll build something soon to have a much better insight in the number of pirates vs legit players. Just to get a better understanding in the population percentage.

Actually Sean, you have anything from 1 to 2,339 cross-players, not 430. Still a significant amount of cross-players, as I like going over to PC when I don't want to wait for like 5 minutes for my CE to boot up.

With cross player I meant people that actually played both games online since I've been tracking. Which is 430, this number will increase once more and more server are being tracked. I wait 15 seconds for 210 maps to load :D (SSD+i7)

that sounds more like it. You should account for the fact that most Halorank supported servers atm are Realworld, SeL. Modacity has a lot of players, and roleplaying servers have gained popularity recently. I'd say that 2,339 could at least be doubled. And that's still accounting for the fact that about half of the roleplaying community is made up of pirates.

well halo CE (custom edition) is basically free. there is a workaround (not a crack) that kinda unlocks it (IE.no need for cd key + it works 94% on multiplayer), its really easy can not believe that no one knows about it. (no cracks no hacks no nothing) if you want to know feel free to ask me. :)
but if denis don't want me to tell then I will not. its not a supported game any way so no one will ever care (EVER!!)
and please no troll/mean replys thank you very much.

If you can afford all those "new" games that cost $60 a piece then you can easily afford HaloCE.
Let me put this another way: If you can afford ANY games you can afford HCE.
And as for you "fix" thing that is a crack/hack. As Dennis said there is no such thing as gray area.

I have another way to put it.
If I bought a house and was proud of it because it was unique. Then, somebody else moved into a new house next door which was exactly the same as mine, I wouldn't mind that much. BUT if I then found out that the person next door moved in without permission from the landlord and didn't even pay the landlord, I would be angry and would report him to the police.
If I bought a game and was proud of it because it was mine, then somebody else told me they have it, I wouldn't mind that much and would enjoy playing online with them. But if I found out that they hadn't paid for it and hadn't had permission from the developers, I would be angry and report him to the police.
Compare the situations.

Honestly they should just bite the bullet and release it on Steam like everyone else is doing these days. If they do, it's a win/win for everyone...
No printing discs Steam manages CD keys Steam manages servers Steam sales would promote the game so much that they would easily sell thousand of copies per sale event TF2 addicts get masterchief hats
And then they could finally add in support for auto downloading maps when you join servers...
The list goes on and on, sometimes I believe that Microsoft enjoys losing money.

As true as that is, that hasn't stopped Fable III from being put up on the steam marketplace, and even though I don't have any sales data to prove otherwise I'd be willing to say that if they hadn't gone that route Fable III wouldn't have done as well on the PC platform.
I don't want to turn this into an E-commerce battle as that is a bit off base (and I don't want it to seem like I'm attacking you or Microsoft) but I don't think GFWL will stand up to what steam has to offer and in my opinion the whole PC section of their Live service is totally stagnant. Heck even the XNA community prefers steam over Microsoft's storefront. I just think they would stand to make more money (and gain valuable experience) by utilizing Steam's services.

Lionhead is a MS game studio so I guess there is more cross distribution than I though. I am guessing that it was because it has a PC version which Halo most likely will not. If it does, although I doubt it, it would be nice to have it on Steam.
