Hello Community.
I took the courtesy of checking out many tutorials and downloading the right programs inorder to aid me in achieving my first editted halo ce map.
Though regardless of all that I have checked. I have been running into problems with turning a map file into a scenario file.
I have been attempting to do this in HEK+ the latest version I could find, I have been extracting the folders from the map Hang em high, checking all of them in the extraction que, unchecking "Save Extracted Tag List" box and yet when I open Sapien I still can not find a Scenario file in the Hang em high folder.
Could anyone please point out what I am doing wrong?
I know this is bound to be a completely novice question, but I have tried and have not achieved what I am aiming for.
Which is to create a battle between the "Spec-Ops" Black elites against many Marines on this map.
Would it also be possible for the Elites to hurl grenades as they do in SP? I would also like to know if the Ship personel (Screaming guys with pistols) are able to be placed into MP?
Once again I am sorry, I don't know where else to turn.

What's your Operating System? If it's Vista or 7, they may be in the "Compatability Folder" of the supposed extration site.
As for the Elites and Crewmen, yes, they can be placed in MP and do the proper things that they're supposed to, but if you want people to join your map/game, then the AI WILL NOT SYNC.

I am running on Windows 7.
I am not looking to make a map for others to play as of this moment, perhaps in time when I have obtained more knowledge on editting, so no worries there.
I am assuming I may need to look for this "Compatability Folder", Thank you for the quick reply.
I'll let you know how it goes.
EDIT! I went into the folder and hit "Compatability Files" but only the hangemhigh.bitmap file was singled out. Edited by Agoodusername on Oct 13, 2011 at 05:18 PM

Well, after doing a bit of checking, it turns out you have to recursively extract the "levels" folder to get the .scenario (as in, only select the "levels" folder in HEK+ and extract).
I personally have never tried modding maps in Win7, as everything I've done before was on a WinXP desktop (but I tossed that out, so I guess I have to learn :P), so I do not know what'll happen in the modding process down the road.
Good luck on your endavours!

Thanks a ton, I am working on it right now, I think I should be all good.
EDIT! I have been attempting what you have suggested so far, but how would one only extract the levels folder?

Well, when you open up hangemhigh.map, you get like 15 folders (I didn't count), right? One of them is called "levels". Select that, and drag it over to the "Tag Extraction Queue" (default position is on the right). Deselect "Save Extracted Tag List", click on "Start". You're done! :3

I tried the Levels folder checked and unchecked.

try making sure the tags are being extracted to the halo Ce tags folder and not any other folder.
you can check this by going to tools/options/plugins in hex+

Kethos! (Success) I now see the Scenario file in Sapien, thank you both for your help, but now I have ran into another problem, Sapien tends to freeze when I attempt to open the Scenario file.
*Facepalms* looks like the battle is not over yet..

Well, I don't see what the problem is, unless you've forgotten to edit sapien's properties. Just to make sure, please follow this: 1) Right-click on sapien's shortcut 2) Click on Properties 3) Click on the Compatability tab 4) Check the box labelled "Run this program in compatability mode" 5) From the drop-down menu, select Windows XP SP2 6) Check the box labelled "Run this program as Administrator" 7) Click Apply then OK 8) Run the program. I did as you just advised, but now *Sighs* I can't find the Scenario file, perhaps this was due to editting the properties of Sapien?
EDIT! I unchecked the settings just to see if that ^ was the issue, they start to appear again after the settings are unchecked, but ofcourse the freeze is there. Edited by Agoodusername on Oct 13, 2011 at 08:14 PM

Well now, that is odd, because I can find and open the scenario file fine with those settings.
See my post above for the full directory for hangemhigh.scenario

the freezing means that it is loading. let it be and it will load. if it quits there is possibly a corrupted tag in the scenario(most likely the shotgun) if that happens clear all of the tags out of the scenario in geurilla and the scenario should load.

That's impossible (the corrupted shotgun). I just extracted Hang Em High on a fresh install of HEK (I'm on my laptop right now, and haven't done any modding on it whatsoever), and it's absolutely fine.
If anything, a corrupted tag means that you've extracted a different map somewhere, and it got corrupted along the way. This is why I always stress to rip all of Halo PC's campaign maps and at least one multiplayer map prior to ripping any maps from Halo CE.

I checked the full directory, when I open Guerilla I can find the scenario file, but not when I use Sapien unless I uncheck those settings.

It is. It allows someone to assist you by controlling your computer - think of it as "Remote Assistance", but far easier to use.
Don't worry though - you can resume control whenever you want, so you don't have users running rampant throughout your system.
It's all up to you, however. I'm not (nor anyone here) going to force you to do what you don't want to. Edited by UBE Chief on Oct 13, 2011 at 08:33 PM

Though I do thank you for offering it.
Are you sure there is no other way to help me out here?

a crash course in geurilla
okay first run geurilla (its the red icon with the gorilla on it)
then go to FILE and click NEW then scroll till you see scenario.
then under sky you click ADD then click the three dots a window will pop up
navigate to the sky folder under tags.
then pick a sky that you want in that folder you want to pick the file with a .sky extension
then scroll to the bottom of the scenario in geurilla and where it says scenario_structure click the three dots and go to your levels\test\hangemhigh
in that folder pick the .scenario_structure_bsp tag
save the scenario in the folder of your choice then open it in sapien.
you will have to place spawn points ect because the scenario is empty but it should open.
also please post the last part of debug.txt

Again, Team Viewer is just like Remote Assistance, but easier to use. Neither program requires sensitive information to run, just ridiculously simple computer info. For RA, it's the computer's name and (if applicable) a user name. TV gives you a randomized computer ID and password for you or anyone else to use.
Unless one of the more experienced members of Halomaps can figure out what's wrong, then I'm not sure what else can be done.
Again, nobody is going to force you to do and/or use anything you don't want to.
E: Posting the debug.txt is an excellent first step to figuring out what's wrong - dunno how that skipped my mind >.< Edited by UBE Chief on Oct 13, 2011 at 08:53 PM

Ok, I reinstalled HEK and the tutorial Scenario is now working.
I will now try out the Hang em High Scenario.
EDIT! Inorder to even see the Scenario file of Hang em High I had to undo the settings that I was advised earlier to do for Sapien, I could see the file but once again Sapien closes.
Also the scenario file has a padlock looking thing on it, is that right?
Debug Txt Below.

Extract recursively all the tags from each default multiplayer map in Halo CE, including bitmaps.map and every other .map file that can be opened in HEK+ (make sure you turn off overwriting in HEK+, and that HEK+ is running as administrator!). Next, try opening any .scenario file in Sapien or Guerrila (and both have to be run as administrator). The scenario files should open fine. Otherwise, if they close, there should be a debug.txt in the Halo Custom Edition folder now, since giving the HEK programs admin rights should allow them to write to the Program Files folder. In general, run ever program related to the HEK as admin, so most of these problems would go away.
Oh, and I am curious: are you running 64-bit Windows 7? My instructions here are for 32-bit Windows 7 or Vista, but a little modification would be needed for 64-bit 7 or Vista...

The bitmaps are corrupted. Delete them and re-extract them recursively - but from Halo PC, not CE. Gearbox kinda messed up when they released Halo CE. Don't ask, it's a long story/explanation.

Now I have Halo: Combat Evolved on my laptop, would this be the "Halo Pc" you were reffering, geez I hope it is lol.
