Well, when I open the material editor it looks normal. When I apply the material to an object only appears the color of the material a little bit more white.

That's fine. It's just an issue with how 3ds max handles the alpha channels that the Halo textures have. It will appear fine ingame.

That's just because of the bitmaps alpha. Everything should look fine in-game but if it really bothers you, go into the setting for the bitmap and change the alpha source to "none(opaque)":

Another thing, when I open the open bitmap dialog, it doesn't accept the .bitmap file.

The Bitmap format used by Halo is a special file made for use in the game. It's not a normal bitmap that your thinking of, you need the unconverted version of the file.

Find aether (used to calculate lightmaps) There is a script in it (Aether companion script) that makes it automatically for all the bitmaps

WELL, that's not possible. Take the advice, or go elsewhere..
3ds max will take .tif, .dds, .bmp, .jpg, .png etc... .bitmap is for HALO, and HALO only.

Max can use pretty much any image format, the Bitmap used by Halo is not a standard image format.

This;
.Bitmap
is not the same as this;
.BMP

You don't need to do anything about it because it does not affect anything in game. It is only a visual glitch. If it really bothers you, then you can do this:

Yes it can. Rerout posted the instructions above. I said you don't need to solve it, but you can solve it if you want to.

1. If it only appears a solid blur of a color, the UVW mapping is probably NOT set up.

2. If you are going to use halo's textures in a 3d modeler, use the .tif files from the data folder, not the tags folder.

Hope these help :)
