I'd like this to be a one stop shop for overlapping face errors, specifically those found during collision BSP construction. Needless to say, I have plenty. What's worse than having 300 of them in a humongous map (aside from having more than 300)? Having them remain in your map even after you delete them, rebuild them differently, and try again. All the posts I've seen say delete the faces and rebuild them. Even that doesn't work. It is quite infuriating, so I am in a dire need of assistance.

Basically, don't overlap faces. What can we say? Import the wrl, show some screenies... there's no shortcuts to bypass your bsp compiling.

Is this a sketchup conversion? Are they duplicate faces? I recall seeing a maxscript at scriptspot or turbosquid written to deal with such things. Are they all the same material id? Smooth group? Thats not too many faces for a maxscript to sift through. See these here Google search results: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ascriptspot.com+%22duplicate+faces%22Edited by bobbysoon on Jun 25, 2011 at 11:21 PM

@Slappy: under 'normal' conditions, I would do just that. In fact, I did that for some of my faces. But hey, whaddayaknow, those pesky errors came back. Add this to the fact that there are, quite literally, NO, say again, NO overlapping faces where the errors point to, and you get one common tool frustration. Since I have 300+ of them, all of which require the recreation of thousands of faces (along with remapping, complexly in many places), I'd like to explore other alternatives.
@bobbysoon: if there is such a script, that would be awesome.

I understand, but there aren't any alternatives to bsp errors. Structure bsps are not compiled without error-free models. Pictures could help, because maybe there actually are errors in those places.

I'll get pictures up soon, I guess. Just know that I continuously delete, rebuild, and otherwise alter 'problematic' faces, to no avail. I'll say that I was able to get rid of a whopping five errors after spending about 30 minutes, but that was just for sky geometry. It'd take hours just to knock out 10 errors on the faces with preexisting mapping coordinates...
Is there some way I can bypass this error? A modified tool, or some other shortcut? At the moment, I just want this in Sapien to get a feel for how the map looks. If the errors persist in-game, then I'll fix them. But I am otherwise unconvinced that these are true errors, considering the majority of them all point to models directly imported from Bungie's maps.

There are a couple modified tool versions that will do what you want, BUT DO NOT USE THEM. They will result in problematic areas in the map and maybe crashes of the game. I am willing to help you with fixing these problems if you want.

Can you direct me to one of these versions? I understand the risks; I just need to see what it looks like in Sapien to get an idea of how my shaders are working, how the bitmaps look, etc. The idea here is not to produce something I would expect to playable; just viewable.
Lay it on me with this help. What can you do? I've got 351 errors that cover probably 2000 faces.
Edit: I had a bad point error, so I moved the whole scene down and over a bit, and guess what? Some overlapping errors went away and new ones took there place. Good news is this bumped the count down to 297. I'll continue moving the scene around, as this may reduce the number of errors. Edited by CAG Gonzo on Jul 24, 2011 at 09:58 PM

I regret it came to this point, given what I've seen and heard of hacked tool programs. But I really want to see this thing in Halo's engine. It only needs to be visible. If a hacked tool will bypass the overlapping errors but result in screwed up visuals, then fine. I'll just have to fix the errors, as you have said. I just don't want to preclude all other options at this time; such a decision would be unwise.

No dice. When it tries to reduce the BSP, it can't import it, because the overlapping faces prevent its construction, thus creating an exception halt. Unless you have a remedy, I'm just going to weed out ~25 errors a day until I get this thing to build correctly. As it stands now, I'm down to ~246 errors.
