The worst voice acting that I heard from the episode 2 gameplay was the guy announcing that the LZ was a little hot. It just didn't seem to work.

I didn't think the voice it self was bad. Just the way it was said.

Seriously. Who does the voice of the pelican pilot? No emotion.

The problems I'm having with the voice acting are that some people are using bad microphones, and/or others are lacking any sort of enthusiasm to the situation at hand.

Yeah, for me, it's not the voices themselves, just the fact that they lack emotion or enthusiasm.

Maybe have like, a try-out day? Have some sets of lines/script open to the public and get people to send in their own recordings of themselves saying it, etc etc. Might be some hidden talent out there.

Biggest part of voice acting is having character. People see "OMG it's a military character so no I'll just be an emotionless crone" and that's one factor why it's so bad sometimes. Military personnel may not seem like it, but on the field you can bet there is some fear and definitely some adrenaline thrown in there. Simply play the games and listen to Marine dialogue (except Reach). Of all of them, especially go to ODST. That game has to have some of the best acting for what the characters are (though I think Romeo's acting is a bit callous/stale).

Basically, imagine you're the soldier you're voicing. You're facing an enemy who can kill you mercilessly, one that's superior to you, and every action you make can cause your team or yourself to die. Even worst, your failure or victory could determine humanity's survival.
