This is accually a good question. My school's announcements dosnt allow it, but i'm sure you can do it in CE. Just credit your sources. Because plagerisim is illegal if you use a source, but if you credit it, then it's all good (Imo)

Im not sure if companies will go get a Halo CE Map and see if it has their music in it

Just credit and you'll be fine. Saying that how the music was just perfect for your map etc. etc.

Can you? Yes.

Should you? Sure.

Is it legal? Technically no.

Does giving credit make it ok? If it makes you feel better, but not really.

Will the company find out I used their music? Most probably not.

If they did would they care. No.

No one is going to sew you. And it's for a non-profit purpose so it is probably legal.

Who cares, no one cares what you do in this community, it's too small to make a difference.

Just give credit to the author(s) and you will be fine. They only care if you are selling their music, if not it is okay, just look at youtube.

I constantly wonder what could possibly be going through people's minds when they post topics like these.

I've done it before, 2 times actually. I don't think they would care even if they saw it. It's not like were even selling it, hell, your promoting it.

That's the same logic people used on youtube, and look what happened to them :/

To answer the original posters question, if we get a legitimate copyright complaint about music or images used in a map we will immediately remove it.

I didn't think it was "sew" lol :)

the music becomes the property of microsoft because anything compiled through tool instantly becomes the property of microsoft and because the original artists dont have the rights to their music anymore they cant do anything about it

You are confusing the use of previously published and copyrighted material with user created content made for the game. I can see how you can make that mistake, especially when trying to prove a point that is difficult to understand to begin with.

If you create a score/song for a map for Halo CE and then put it in a map you create for Halo CE you are forfeiting any copyright claims for the Music in that map because the intended content is already copyrighted. That is very different than putting a song by another author into the map without their permission.

If you own the original copyright to the music and place it in previously copyrighted content you are forfeiting your copyright claims to the final content. Think of it this way the author of the music used in a movie has no copyright claim on the move itself and less if he donated the music to the movie. People want to think about copyright issues as black and white but they are pretty much as grey as it gets.

A copyright owner can do quite a bit. Even if the offending content was removed he could still bring legal action against the publisher (me) and the person who created the content and all those who downloaded it (if you are a minor then that means your legal guardian/parents) . It is within his rights to peruse redress for the copyright offense. To what extent is up to him and the courts. I will agree that for the most part removal of the content is what they want if they are even interested at all but it may not always be so.
