Hey guys, I just downloaded the Halo Custom Edition and I was looking at the site and found this thing called a Weapon Tag. Can someone explain to me what it is? I'm new to the CE. Thanks :)

hey and welcome :)
tags as best as i can explain are items that can be added to maps and can also be edited.
you can use the http://ghost.halomaps.org/bluestreak/gbxmodel/ to open gbx models in gmax>>http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax you can import the animations from characters etc using the >>http://ghost.halomaps.org/bluestreak/animation/
your halo editing kit contains, guerilla and sapien, you use guerilla to open tags etc items so that you can edit the values, cubemaps, bitmaps etc, sapien lets you added items to your maps, for example to add a new weapon to a multiplayer or single player maps you would use the weapon tags to add the weapon.
best to read the hek tutorial to get a real proper explanation in detail.

"Tags" are files that contain the information on the specified object for how it is to appear, act, etc. in the game.

Take a look in the tutorials section of this site, and the site that is in the Halo CE main directory... There is a lot of info there on how to utilize them.

just open up custom edition, click multiplayer, click find games online (or something like that), click a server, join, play. easy as that.

E: and what you're doing is called threadjacking. like taking over someone elses thread. people tend to frown when others do it. best to create a new thread for different problems.

i think a weapon tag is a file that can be placed in the game to spawn a weapon (eg assault rifle.weapon)

In order to put tags into a map read this:

You'll need the Halo Editing Kit, available here:
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=411

You'll also need the HEK+ tool:
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2289

Download and install the HEK (be warned, its a pretty big file) if you haven't already. It should be, by default, in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition directory. You'll also notice a "tags" folder in there. Now, take those weapon tags you downloaded, and install them into your tags folder by following the instructions usually included in the readme file. They usually go in tags\weapons.

Now you'll need that HEK+ tool. Download it, install it, and open it up. Now, hit "Open Map File" and select the map you want the weapons in from the regular Halo maps folder, default C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\MAPS
Now in HEK+, you'll see the tags of that map appear. Go to levels\test\ and drag and drop all the contents of that folder into the "Tag Extraction Queue". Uncheck "Save extracted tag list" and hit "Extract"

When the levels\test\ files are done extracting with HEK+, open up Guerrilla, a tool that came with HEK. It should be in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition folder along with the rest of the tools. It has a sort of Neanderthal man as an icon. In Guerrilla, go ahead and do File.item_collection.

Now, to add it into the map. Close Guerrilla and open up Sapien, another tool that came with the HEK. Navigate to levels\test\, and open up the .scenario file. This map is the map you extracted earlier with HEK+. Give it a while to load, and when it loads up, you can move around in the map. Used WASD to move and the middle button and the mouse to look around. Now, under "game data" on the hierarchy view, select "netgame equipment", then right click where you want your weapon to be. On the properties palette, scroll all the way down until you get to the "...", and click them. Find the .item_collection you made with Guerrilla, and open that. Save the scenario and close Sapien.

Now you're ready to compile your map. Before that, go in your tags\levels\test\ folder and find your .scenario tag. Rename it to something else, so it won't overwrite the actual map when you compile. Don't use spaces or weird characters in the name.
To compile the map, do Start Menu<Run and run cmd
In cmd, type, without any errors:

cd c:\program files\microsoft games\halo custom edition

Then type:

tool build-cache-file levels\test\<map name>\<scenario name you named it to>

Let it compile. When its finished, open up CE and test it out!

it's called custom edition,
-in this site select the page called "Halo CE Maps"
-search "halo custom edition" in the seacrh box on the left
-download halo custom edition
-install halo custom edition by double clicking the downloaded file (exctract it if necessary)
-you need a cd key from 'halo combat evolved' to install it
-once you' re done you should see a icon called "Halo Custom Edition" on your desktop
-double click on it
-when the game loads you should see a menu, the first line should be "MULTIPLAYER"
-click on the word "MULTIPLAYER"
edit: i forgot this step (lol) -click on "Internet" under Join Game
-click on refresh and select a server
-play

hope it works =)

xD i enjoyed doing this xD lol xD

Question: Have you ever played Halo before?

Custom Edition is almost exclusively multiplayer. I have no idea why you're asking such a retarded question - especially if you just installed it. The default UI (User Interface) has Multiplayer primarily selected. If you can't see that, then...I don't know. Get some glasses.

As for finding games...that's just another retarded question that should be directed to my question to you. Have you ever played Halo before?

If you mean maps, then that's also a retarded question. Why come to the forums if you have to pass through the main site to get here?

If you CBA'd to even understand what I'm saying, go here:
http://hce.halomaps.org/
Go download your maps here, and stop threadjacking - make your own thread if you need more assistance.
