Separating the firing positions into defending/attacking etc. is also a good technique, depending on the type of encounter.

watched for about 10 seconds and stopped when I saw that you spammed spawn points and firing positions like no tomorrow.

Firing positions are where your AI fire from (or in the case of initial state as 'guarding', its where they protect), right? So spamming them randomly will have your AI fire randomly by extension...

Yeah, of course you have to make sure that if there's a player, it is fair. Nothing worse than popping out of cover after waiting for your shields to charge only to have to come back into cover 1 second later and continue that cycle.
Yeah, most people on this site are awful at using AI effectively. I would consider myself to be quite good at that, but I have no proof because the only map I have ever uploaded to this site is an old AI mod from when i first starting modding. I had been modding for like 3 weeks I think.

If you think that is random, consider that the video is at 30x speed.
Also, I used the most efficient method for such a small area, caking. It wasn't going to be a single player map, I just wanted to quickly show making an encounter. I didn't need to consider a player. Edited by gnademassica117 on Apr 5, 2011 at 10:39 AM If you want to show making an encounter, you do it by showing how to do it for a player. Caking is not the most efficient method for making an encounter, it's the least.
