Nice tut.
I want to add though.
Cubemaps on 99% of models are supposed to be a reflection of the object, not the environment that surrounds it, they should also be blurry.
The banshee cube resembles the banshee, mc resembles mc's armour, etc.
If you try to apply a clear bloodgulch cube to the mc visor you will see how wrong things can get when you go inside a base or cave.
Also in photoshop if you are using other tools to make a horizontal cubemap, the cube will be arranged slightly different from halo's cube arrangement.
Typical horizontal cross.
You can easy cut with the polygonal selection tool and rearrange the squares with grid and snaps.
edit, preferences, grids,guids and slices.
change the "gridline every" to a power of 2 (64 pixels for this tuts cubemap)
view,check "snap"
view, snap to, check grid and document bounds.
also, i make a pure blue layer as background then have all 6 squares as seperate layers above, i dunno if that matters though.
