Apparently public enemy number 1?

So, since October, I have been being harassed every day by a friend who wanted me to make him a vehicle setup that can strafe, fly up and down, forward and back. He didn't like my explanation on how to do it himself, so he kept asking me every time hes seen me online since then... so, yesterday I finally did it.

http://www.xfire.com/video/410650/
http://www.xfire.com/video/410cbf/

yes, I could of made the video look nicer (like actually use all of the tags for his vehicle like shaders lol or given it proper weapons instead of just being lazy and using all ghost settings.) the way it works is by having the weight of the vehicle exactly equal the force lifting it up; plus minus zero. then it has the ghost movement scheme, and has tags to move it up and down (down doesn't work as well as I would of hoped.. I actually blame that on the tags he had me work with.. out of the few essential I needed to use to set it up for that vehicle, one caused this issue) and I guess I don't exactly need to release them after I've explained it, but still.

Also, its been forever since ive posted anything lol, anything interesting happen? And hes probably gonna kill me now, because after half a year of him begging me for them, I just offer them out lol. Also, I demand you all watch Star Driver.. epic show.

EDIT: View message 8 for status on release.. also, second video added. Tags are all good to go like in the second video (which xfire aparently also recorded my japanese music. who knew?)

Hey Kirby, yes, i am sure a lot of people would like to see you release this.
I tend to stay out of the general discussion threads so i couldn't tell you much of what is happening there.
You must have seen the new maps Lumoria and Precipice?

you could use it on any vehicle. You setup the base settings to that of a ghost, and set the physics up similar to one (the antigravity) and you just have each mass point counteract the gravity applied on it (no more no less). then set the height its ment to hover at to how high you want it to fly. then just attach force to two function blocks for what ever settings you want to trigger up and down.

So, even though I just got the tags and readme done for the release, it seems that the person who demanded them of me does not want me to do anything with the stuff I made....

Wondering if he has a good reason to ask that.
Is he going to use them?
Is he going to release them 1 day after you give them to him?
if so, i would just release them, unless he is a good friend.

Well, im gonna use them in a map, and i'll release them eventually. not just one day after. and me and him are very good friends. I must admit, i've had many people especially go out against me to tell me that this is impossible, so i wanna keep these tags to myself for the time being. Dont worry, i WILL personally release them, with 98% credit going to Kirby

I like how it can strafe and everything, but it still flies like the banshee... I thought the hornet wasn't supposed to point up and down.

Sorry, but something like this is rare to find, on many multiple occasions. so as for now, they'll remain mine. I will put them in a release with my mapping team

Well, in Halo 3, it has the abilty to freeform move. The banshee flying im guessing was a side effect due to the base physics being modded banshee physics. The Hornet DOES have the ability to go up and down like a pelican, but the way this was done was just somewhat odd, and thus the reason i asked the walking halo bible

Well, its not hard getting them ingame, as you can tell by those two test runs we had, but the problem is creating a custom BSP and the things around it, so the pain really comes from there on in

Sorry to bring this back from the dead!
Just curious about something - you see how when you apply power to go upwards - I'm assuming by using the jump key, a la Ghost, the nose pitches up. Is this a result of the positioning of the antigrav points and mass points? Can this be balanced out to give a more stable position?
Annnd, I notice the flying heights of the Hornet changes a lot in the last video. Is this because it still follows your aiming direction like the banshee? Because if so, doesn't this solve the whole 'no flying sideways' issues that many modders have had before this? :/

Well, after testing it, the vehicles floats around when you get off the vehicle.

That's... interesting? Any idea why? I would have thought that with no player in the vehicle, the power for it turns off and everything should just drop, like how the Ghost does?

I'm not trying to be rude but that's quite a simple thing to do :/ It isn't really unique.

Pardon me if I misunderstood what exactly it is that you're doing.

That is the problem. You won't be able to have all the attachments the fixed hornet on the site does.

I have the 4 anti-grav set up like a +, (just overlay the + to the model. one at the front, back, left, right)

and it doesnt go up and down where you aim (since if you look up or down, it tries to stay flat) every time you see those thruster things in the video, that means jump is pressed (you fly around all awesome if you hold jump lol) thats how im going up.

(unless he made a vehicle without the exact ghost settings, he doesnt exactly mean that^^)
the physics layout I have does that because none of the physics points that touch the ground have any ground friction, so they slide across any ground.

You do realize that for a very long time people have wanted to be able to straft like a ghost, yet still go up and down, right? So if this isnt unique, then how come people have always wondered that and never just done it?..

That is the problem. You won't be able to have all the attachments the fixed hornet on the site does.

Since the up and down with the collision I was handed didnt work (it couldnt touch it for some reason) you can just leave the function blocks alone since I don't think they are doing anything anyways (I know the down atleast isnt)

excerpt from the readme I wrote when I was about to release it:
Although I don't know weather to call this a feature or a bug, the closer you fly to the ground, the more it will be pulled towards it; think of it as when higher up, your further from the planet/halo's gravitational pull.

The up and down is a bit funny? Isn't flying it like that half the fun? lol, if you want it to tip less when flying upwards, try replacing the camera track with the ghost one. never payed much attention weather it actually tips less or not, but it doesn't look as spratic. The downwards is kinda strange, but there are two garrented ways to make it go down; 1) fly by a slope, the gravity 'feature' I talked about earlier will help you come down. 2) drive in circles, because that always works (seriously, it does)

what I did behind the bloodgulch bases was the gravity thing, and the random spinning (I was not joking about that; its the best part lol) is that one. So, basically if you fly over a slope till your at the top, turn around, fly down, it will take you down.

Heh, I see. It makes a bit more sense now. I tried playing about with the Ghost physics, but the newb that I am, all I could make it do was launch me across the map. Thanks for clarifying :)

The tags will eventually be released with the first map that i end up making with my mapping team. im currently in the proccess of building a tagset so, it could be a bit of time, But do not lose hope! for if i fail......then i'll just quit halo and release the tags anyways
