Just a concept map I am almost done making, needs a lot of work, but I am about 2/3 done. Should have spent more than only 30 minutes total on her, but she is worthy of a map being made. (final map setup of items not finished) JOTUN Assembly Plant

I dunno, the general play space seems very flat and boring. It's basically a square. I think you should extend the area out and make it more complex. There's no passageways or alternate routes to take. I'm assuming those 2 buildings on the sides are the bases, but there's only 1 way from each base to the next and only one door. I can pretty much predict how the match is going to go just by looking at the map. If I were you, I would add a second level to the bases and make some catwalks between them. I would also add something over on the wall with the giant garage door, maybe another catwalk, I dunno. Something to draw players over there. Perhaps a power weapon.
Maybe you could use the JOTUN machines as a way to get up and down from levels. That would be neat. If you had a couple of in-progress machines around there that you could hop around on or move under. Edited by UnevenElefant5 on Jan 24, 2011 at 09:00 PM

I have to agree with Elefant - the space is simply a box map, with little to no alternate routes. It's as simple as going in with a shotty and SMG and snatching the flag. I can understand this is a foot-based map, but an additional level (or two) would increase the spectrum of gameplay, especially if one flag base was on the ground floor, and the other was on the 2nd (or 3rd). Some catwalks wouldn't go amiss either, and maybe a balcony of some sort on the far end at the middle of the map with a power weapon would be another way of drawing the enemy out.
With all these ideas in place, it would make a very good KoTH/Oddball map along with the standard CTF/Slayer gametypes.
Oh, and maybe having the bases on opposite corners would also help with gameplay functionality instead of having it shaped like a U. This is also where catwalks would be an essential foothold if you changed it with these suggestions in mind.

Edited by UnevenElefant5 on Jan 24, 2011 at 09:00 PM Now the ball is rolling, I was thinking about a catwalk. The original map design was a small slayer map, team slayer would definately NOT work lol. The map will be scaled up a little, perhaps a second floor, but the cieling will be the tricky part, the lighting on sketchup is tricky when you do cielings, so I will need to do some lights on the inside. I was thinking about making a second room off to the side where JOTUN parts are delivered for assembly, meaning I need to model more parts, no issue there. The main building (seen now) will be 2 stories, second floor will be a cat-walk system and crane operations + additional for the maintaince crew to work on things. The sub-building will be a 1-1/2 stories, and will have an unaccessable exterior where some box trucks and JOTUN parts can be seen outside.
