i didn't have halo open just had sapien open and was trying to open the scenario file from my map.and i got that error, after googling around i found out that some windows up dates can be to blame, and funny enough i had just let windows add updates yesterday. so after restoring my pc all is fine.i do a little programming and had also installed updates relating to that and was thinking at first maybe that was something that was interfering with halo but alls good.
