Good Evening my fellow mappers. As you all know I always do a christmas special in halo, this time something came up that may make it hard for this to happen. I have a hauppauge capture card that I was going to capture my special but, last night it shorted out and now it is just a box of plastic that smells like burnt hair. Now onto the part that will cause most of you to click out of this thread. I would think that the serious mappers and maybe even old friends of mine would help me do this since....my mapping skills aren't the best in the world. I need a new map to film on and I have the layout in mind too. So lets break it down Grey- The standard snow covering the area White- I would like for the white to be a hilly area that goes upward. As you can see on the top a small train track running through the area. A train would be cool but unless you have a model save your time Brown Squares- No color signifigance. JUST building OR houses. Keep in mind I don't care if you rush, just as long as it looks better than my maps. The buildings can be used over and over again I don't care if they look repetitive either. Black- That would just be the street or an icy road slightly covered in snow. Sky/Enviornment/Particles/Ect Sky- Could anyone do a day to night switch? I would like the night sky to be a kind of detailed one. So not JUST black, a few stars? As for the daytime one, a cold snowy look- coldsnaps sky, which is just white. Particles- I would like for it to be snowing...thats it. Enviornment- Colorfully lit. The christmas colors emitting off of the buildings and lots of trees. Now, this sounds like a total pain in the ass. Im not gonna lie or try to make it look easy. If anyone is up for this let me know, or if anyone wants to even help me. Thanks Guys. I would like for the town to look as if it is in a forest surrounded by high mountains. By the train tracks there should be more trees that stretch onward and kinda dissapate into the fog...if that helps. Now if you cant do it like that fine, but in a forrest
BTw- Thats looking good man but make sure there is more surrounding space. So the hills can gradually rise upwards and also you can make the tracks alot more simple than that. As for the buildings, maybe something really village like? With simple brick/wood textures and a classic triangle slanted roof Edited by K_I_D on Dec 5, 2010 at 10:15 PM

Anyway I will work on it it my spare time it will probably be bigger then that but as I have said before that is just a quick model.

Dude, if you would do that YES that would be amazing. Seriously I'd be so appreciative. I guess everyone else who wanted to do it could pitch in too only if they wanted.
Oh crap mythril you already did it! It looks great man! Hunter maybe you could do the house models or modify them? Is there anyway they could be 2 stories to give maybe an apartment look?
BTW- I know I seem picky since you guys are doing this for me but you don't understand how grateful I am. Like....you can tell me stfu anytime you want and be like "Hey man it is what it is" because I don't wanna come off like a little spoiled kid...LOL Edited by K_I_D on Dec 6, 2010 at 01:14 PM

Do an animated sky - but simple:
Large dome, with a vertical large wheel going below the horizon, but not above the sky box, not to high above the houses, parallel to the street. make the wheel turn slowly (animated).
then make a santa/sleigh /reindeer bitmap with mask, affix bitmap to wheel - bam! you got santa flyin over the sky. Add a marker to the wheel _, create effect tag which drops "presents" - (projectiles) which when they detonate, create a gift box/health pack/vehicle?

Correction, you would not want a marker on the sky/wheel/santa - it wouldn't work to drop presents from the sky because it is not part of the bsp. This can be achieved easier by script or effect tags with script for proper placement or dropping.

My guess is to have the wheel (blue) rotating on a horizontal axis that is equal to the horizon line but within the sky. If the wheel then has 2 locations for a single bitmap to be applied upright, as show in the grey areas the affect may be scaleable: If not scaled right, giant santa and his giant reindeer come poopin out "presents." but, I think it would be better to have a single horizontal rectangle plane, and a transparent shader could then animate using "slide" to give the effect of santa entering from one east, but 1/3rd left corner to top 1/3rd right, or an over head rectangle plane (strip) to simulate a fly-over head. or scrap the sky idea and just model santa and reindeer, animate them, then use as animated scenery similar to a pelican fly-over. Crap, sorry for heaps long delay. The model has been pissing me off heaps cause of strange open edges that appear on random lines. No, they aren't actually errors. I think it's something to do with bluestreak or something, because as soon as I used a different exporter, it worked [FUUUUU give me blitzkrieg for 64bit please!].
Going to ingame it by tomorrow, hopefully.
Sorry again for the delay >>
p.s. btw, does it matter if the houses have no collision? Sketchup to 3ds creates all these open edges which I'd rather not expend the time to fix unless necessary.
