I'm getting the hang of this, but I'm still having problems, anyways:

How can you get the grunts to use other vehicles besides their shade turrets (and how do you get all the other AI's to do the same)?

there are two ways, the less effective is using command list's which causes the ai to not always get in the vehicle and there's scripting makes it work a lot better

here's a script to make the ai get into the vehicle's:

(vehicle_load_magic nameofvehicle seatofvehicle (ai_actors encountername/squadname))

that's an easy vehicle load magic script that i think most people use "i use it alot" for most maps.

Actually, scripts wouldn't help in this case. If the AI didn't have the animations to enter the vehicle, then the script wouldn't work at all. Rather, you'll need to modify the animations for the AI. Open the AI, under "Units", find the seat label for a suitable vehicle, duplicate it, and rename the duplicate to the seat label of the vehicle you wish the AI to enter.

I know how to script now, but does the AI just enter the vehicle on its own?

I got it working, the grunts now use whatever vehicle I script them to use.

So if I wanted a grunt to enter a "h2_shade" vehicle, I would say:
(((ai_go_to_vehicle)h2_shade)grunt)
right?

Sorry, I have VERY minimal scriptuing experience, the most I've done with scripts is edit existing ones.

im pretty sure this ones correct.

just make sure you name the vehicle in sapien.

This command worked (and I changed the seat name of the vehicle to GT-gunner).

As for the grunts, I put them just about anywhere, and the entered the vehicle I wanted them to enter.

Problem solved for everybody!

sorry to bump, but if I wanted to load the player into one of the passenger seats of a pelican... what would the vehicle_load_magic parameters look like?
