So it crashes when you open the bloodgulch.senerio file; correct? most likely the senerio is corrupt or incomplete. I am going to assume that you:

1) have a clean install of the HEK - all tags and folders
2) Have used HEK+ to extract the bloodgulch senerio
3) Did NOT check "overwrite tags" in HEK+ when extracting the senerio

To test to see if it is not the dual core issue that can occur on some systems open sapien then open the \tags\levels\test\tutorial\tutorial.scenario and see if it opens OK. If so then you know that the other senerio is corrupt in some way.

You can also open the bloodgulch.senerio in Guerilla and verify that none of the fields have red text indicating that the tag is missing. If so then review the Tag Fixing Tutorial http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3224 on how to fix missing tags.

Do you mean to extract ALL of the tags in the bloodgulch map? Or just the scenario tag?

ok now im thinking your just screwd lol.

Could it be something to do with my computer? Like my sound card or something? My computer used to run sapien before. My computer is like 8 years old!

if bloodgulch is all you want then I think I saw .scenarios of all original maps for download on site

or he could just rip it from the actual map.

What I've been getting at all along, is that if you're using a CLEAN INSTALL OF HEK, and trying to open TUTORIAL, and that crashes, then that isn't a HEK issue, rather, it's an issue with your computer or how you're attempting to run the program.

I've opened sapien by double-clicking sapien then I choose the scenario. Or I double-click sapien and choose run as, then I choose administrator, then I choose a scenario and it closes. I'm going to upgrade to vista and try that, but I can't find my vista disk.

Well I was going to upgrade to vista then 7.

Did you open the tutorial map in sapien? If not then forget blood gulch and open the tutorial map. In order to troubleshoot a problem you have to eliminate variables. Right now we have no idea what is wrong so first we have to test by opening the tutorial map.

If the tutorial map opens in sapien then we know that the basic tag set and the program are working. If you can’t then we can forget about bloodgulch and get your basic setup fixed first.

Here are the steps you need to do:

1) Open sapien then open the tutorial map.

a. If it doesn’t work then it is either your tag set or your something with the computer. – delete then re-install the HEK – DO NOT re-extract any files. Then open the tutorial again.

i. If it does work then you can re-extract the bloodgulch map and DO NOT overwrite tags.

ii. If after the re-install you still can’t open tutorial then you may need to set the affinity on Spaien in the task manager so that is only uses 1 core.

I did all of this and tutorial still wont open, and I don't have the set affinity thing on my computer.

then you dont have a dual core cpu. and like i said i think ur screwd.

yep ur screwd. well try vista and see.

A multi core issue would provide some sort of debug output.

I can't get windows 7 installed and when I use virtual box I get a error that it can't load.

do you have another pc?

wow HCE your PC must be really old to not handle windows 7 and sapien......... are your graphics drivers up to date? and do you have a suitable Graphics/Video Card?

I could try to install hek on my brothers pc, and my computer is like 7 years old! My brothers is half a year old, so I should be able to run it on my brothers. I haven't been updating my graphics drivers so I'll try that, but my graphics look fine. Edit: How do I update my graphics driver?

ur still on the same pc? if so then yea its something with ur pc. the default refresh thing isn't a problem.

By "I did all this" does that mean you uninstalled The HEK deleted the tags folder, re-installed it THEN tried to open the tutorial map?

I did the desktop composition thing and now mine works again, FINALLY!!!

Also check to be sure your video (display) color settings is set to 32bit mode.

How do u do that? Mine crapped itself again

But with your tipp to set Desktop Resolution to 32 bit it worked!
