How many tris do you think a map could have without having any portaling done. Note this is a multiplayer map. And also, does anyone have like any covenant scenery besides default?

i think it depends on the computer/desktop ur using for the render. For a BSP, i think mine can render about ~8000 polies. and its a pretty bad desktop :U (but this is for only the BSP, no weapons, characters etc.)

for the covenant scenery, other than making your own and the ones posted on this site, (and maybe modacity. I dont really go there lol) i dont think there really is any D:

From the HEK Tutorial:
http://hce.halomaps.org/hek/references/general/general_ld_info.html
Quote:
The following lists the suggested maximum amount of triangles that should be allowed to draw per scene.

Multiplayer Levels: 50,000 triangles

The values listed are a general guideline due to the fact that performance is affected by many factors other than triangle counts such as the number and type of materials (shaders) in the scene, sounds, dynamic lights, lens flares, and other game objects.

As can be expected, the fewer triangles being drawn the better. When creating a level, the level designer should always take into the account additional triangle counts added by vehicles, players, weapons, items, and effects and prepare for any worst case scenarios in terms of triangle counts and rendering.
With portaling you can have more triangles in the BSP. Therefore given the HEK guidelines it is safe to say that without portaling your BSP should be around 50K triangles.

Halo has some kind of built in limit on the bsp of something like 60k triangles.

Halo for me was crapping out on a SP map that wasn't even finished and it had like 20k triangles. I tried their version of portaling and it kind of sucks. But okay, hopefully no missing geometry will appear when I look around.
