Also, how do I get tool.exe? I type it into the command prompt and it say "not a valid win32 file" and then says access denied.
I have finished adding Ai to my map, now i need to get it into Halo PC. How exactly do I do this? I have watched a ton of videos all saying to open up tool in the command prompt, unfortunately I don't know how. Please help Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 06:13 AM

Halo CE or PC?
for your tool.exe problem, copy and paste cmd into your HEK root folder (same place as tool.exe), create a shortcut to the copied cmd, and modify the cmd shorcut so that it runs as admin. Then you do your compiling of the map in tool from the cmd that you run using the shortcut.

Assume I am a complete techie noob. I have no idea, this is my first map creation, ever. I am using windows 7 64bit OS.
I would prefer CE, but I used sidewinder from PC to make it. Where is my HEK root likely to be? My map is called sidewinder_ai What EXACTLY would I type in to get it to work?
EDIT: I don't seem to have a definite HEK root. It appears to be everywhere in my Custom edition directory. I have HEK_Tutorial Guerilla Sapien Tool
Do I want to paste the cmd.exe here?

Edit 2: how do I edit the shortcut to run as admin? Is it simply right-clicking and going "run as administrator"??
TY Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 06:44 AMEdit 3: I think I have tool working. What do I need to type in order to get it to make a halo ce .map file? As stated before my map is called "sidewinder_ai" Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 06:46 AM This is what I put into my cmd: tool build-cache-file levels test sidewinder_ai\sidewinder_ai Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 07:02 AM

you type in: tool build-cache-file levels\test\sidewinder_ai\sidewinder_ai
assuming the file your scenario file in is called sidewinder ai, other wise: tool build-cache-file levels\test\sidewinder\sidewinder_ai thats for the original map file location. If you want to be able to use the sidewinder_ai map with halo pc (not custom) you have to name it sidewinder otherwise it wont show up in halo pc.
your directory should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition for everything to work
and yes, right click and click on run as admin will run as admin, dunno what you need it for, updating maybe? for multiplayer... Edited by Ilikdonuts101 on Jun 6, 2010 at 07:24 AM

Ok, thank you for that. I managed to get tool working. However, I now have another issue: I can't seem to open other maps, I have extracted the .scenario in HEKplus, from the test folder. It will only let me open the regular multiplayer maps.
EDIT: How do I mod campaign maps???? Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 11:08 PM
Edit: If I try to open any map that in not an original Halo PC map, sapien closes. Ditto for campaign from Either game?
How do I add/modify maps I have downloaded from this site, and how do I edit campaign maps? Stupid sapien won't let me :/ Edited by Jeebus NZL on Jun 6, 2010 at 11:18 PM

You can't open campaign maps as far as i know of, there's an error message in debug. i can only open b30 which is Silent Cartographer. try extracting everything on the map file.

Now I'm getting this stupid error when I try to use tool: I type in: "tool build-cache-file levels\coldsnap\coldsnapwar" The folder created by HEKplus didn't put the coldsnap folder into "test" with the other maps.
