The reason I play and mod this game is as follows

it's straight forward to edit

It's a great game to play and I like the series

and I know a lot of people who are interested in the game especially the CE portion of it

I really have enjoyed being in this community and being able to share my thoughts and do my best to participate but there are just a few sort of annoying (not unbearable though) things.

This community would be perfect IF it wasn't for how (some) people disrespect others constantly and people think that you have to cite your levels or other mod work like a 300 level college English class or you shall forever be flamed.

Honestly , I think most of you mod the game for the fame.

Me, I was a halo fan from the very time xbox was released. I got my xbox right after it's release. There werent many games to choose from, and most i barely knew about. I left my xbox for a week. Until my friend tells me about halo. Some weekend after, i bought halo combat evolved for the xbox. I was drawn into addiction with playing that game. I spent hours with my brother playing that game. It took us 4 days to finish it. It was something that changed my life. The real thing that caught me was the imagination and gameplay. It was so solid and fun. Ive been playin halo and been watching Tv until halo 2 was released, which i was at the launch party in australia. i didnt want to play at the game retailer. It would spoil it for me. So i arrived home. Me and my brother equipped with the guide book, soon finish the game together in 6 hours. I was amazed by it. Playing halo 2 was all i did. Then later on. some very long time after the xbox 360 was released. I purchased an xbox360 and halo 3 on the day the game was released. I didnt actully purchase it. my older brother did. I arrived home from school that day to find he was playing halo 3!. I was amazed. i couldnt stand watching him play the game by himself. It wasnt like before on when we were younger. When it was my turn. i didnt play halo 3 right away. I played around with the new features of the xbox 360. After a few minutes of experimentation, i played halo 3 with my little brother. I was just dazzled over the main menu. I stayed there for 10 seconds inanimate. frozen. I was shocked. Then i soon got played the first mission and was like "OMG, GRAPHICS ARE AMAZIN AND MC's NEW HAND ARMOUR IS OSSIM!!". 1 day later i finished the game and started forging. It wasnt long befor i got xbox live. I quickl hopped on and played. I became a captain grade 2 in only a week, i was addicted. A year and 2 months later. the console hit the fan (not literally). RROD. It was fixed easily by the towel trick. 9 months later. RROD again. but this time. It couldnt be saved. I felt like a idiot so i tried to fix it myself wiith the repair kit. I failed. I didnt follow the instructions properly and now my xbox went to hell. Then a month later i was on my laptop all the time. i soon found a download for halo 1, i played it. it was fun. But it didnt fuel my lust for imaginative gaming. It wasnt the experience i remember. So i went on youtube and soo learned about Halo CE. I was like "OOOOOHHHH-EMMMMMM-GEEEE!!!" I downloaded it straight away, got the most popular maps at that time (coldsnap and extinction). and PLayed. i found it sooo fun and creative. i wanted to put my creativity to the test. so i downloadedthe HEK. Made my first box map. i was happeh. I spawned stuff evrywere. But then i got bored. So i soon joined this community of modding and became a modder. I chose to be a texture because of the experience i had with photoshop already. so i tried my luck. I was successful. And now. I have been here almost 2 years. I have a new xbox360. And have a renewed xbox live account.

But to me modding is done for the fun of it. Not to become a god. Its to enjoy. Not to be a douchebag by showing off like a idiot.
Me, i dont show my work alot. I dont want to be praised. Its not a need, nor want. But a bonus, a reward for the things you have done.
To me modding is about the Fun of it, Not the competitiveness of it.

EDIT: WHAT A LOOOOOOOONNNNGGG post

Started in the summer of 5th grade. Got bored on a hot summer day, dled the Trial because a friend said it was a good game. Soon met a guy on Trial, Twitch444, who's name suffix I added to my own as acknowledgment for what he taught me. He introduced me to modding, told me to get HMT, gave a brief run-through of basic modding. He essentially pulled me into Modding and Mapping. I soon got bored of switching metas, then branched out to other aspects. I made some skins, dawdled with modeling (moving verts around FTW), then still felt too limited (this was before Eschaton). I got the full game about a year later, which eventually led me to CE.

I do what I do, be that making FUBAR textures, practicing animating, learning modeling, and making maps, simply because that feeling you get when you run around a map with a gun and think to yourself, "I made this. This gun acts this way because of ME. This vehicle looks like this because of ME."

To me, there's no greater satisfaction than looking on something you just fumbled over for the past few hours and saying, "That turned out okay." CE provides a fairly easy-to-use medium for putting what you want into something fun that you can play with.

Started playing in 2007, and than stopped, in 2008 got back into the game and started a modding team with the objective of making the game better, and give the community more stuff to use for the game. Personally: I started playing because the game was fun, and stopped a few times due to the community becoming over obsessive with the mentality that the game was a tool respect (I.E. over egotistic teams, and most of them started in 2005 through 2007).

I like the game due to its almost unlimited capability to be modified. Its a fun way to create and share your work freely.

The forums I have always liked to run around, yeah, we all had our annoying era's, but we all cool off =P
(P.S. sorry for being annoying in the past with posting, I am back to have some fun and release some stuff I regretfully broke a promise too)

I played this game because my crap computer couldn't support any other.

This. i got bored with PC and i still have that crap computer. The minute i get a better one i'm done with CE.

I'm not saying it hasn't been fun but a couple weeks ago I tried to play CE...It's just not much fun when THERE IS NO ONE THERE!

The people who play CE are probably a lot of creators with a select few clans and others who know about it. If you get to know the community here or are involved in other clans, it is best just to talk to those guys and get something going. But yes, you are right. Hardly anyone plays CE anymore and most people play classic maps which could just as easily (and with less lag) be played in standard Halo. I guess I do that a little too though.

I started modding because Halo CE is my favorite game they've released an editing kit for. While it's not completely open source, it's still very flexible. I think a Halo game mixed with rpg elements could be fun, so that's why I'm modding.

My inspiration comes from unique, old-school FPSes (Unreal, Marathon, Quake, etc). I can very easily see Halo's engine being used to create some kind of arena-style deathmatch mod with it's simplistic tagging system. That WAS my goal at one point, to create something simplistic yet unique that hasn't been done before, and have it all open source for others to learn off of. First came the UT2004 total conversion, then the Marathon total conversion. Both were scrapped. Since then, due to the dead community, I don't see anything remarkable coming out of me any time soon.

You know, I actually have but for some reason, it won't show me the user created maps even when i toggle it to show all. But yes, I have been told before that there are still a good few who play there.

First Off I was here in the beginning and now because I enjoy making maps for this game. Its a great game and there still is alot you can do with the engine. I have to agree with you HRY. Back when I was still very active in 2006 If you released anything that might look like halo 2 stuff you where chewed out for being a ripper even if you modeled it. The community would do anything and everything to say you are a ripper. Another reason I left is because of the Elitest group. There was a group of people that where great programs and could have made halo ce grow. But instead they didnt release any of there programs and only a select few had the programs so that the community would look at them as god. For example Cluis created Magic a program to convert halo ce to xbox back in 2005 and he wouldnt release it. So thats why I feel like halo ce dropped alot of people fast.
