So I was playing the Odst Rp v7.5 map (Rather big for my tastes) and I went into the secret room on the ship where there are drop pods that, when you walk up to them, teleport you down onto the map below.

I liked it, thought it was cool, but was wondering if it was possible to make a more realistic drop pod? I was thinking maybe that cryo chamber the Master Chief wakes up in in the first Halo, giving the player a good range of sight as they drop down onto the map, and you could enter and leave it as if it were a vehicle with its closing and opening animations for each.

I'm not sure if it would follow a straight path, I'd imagine it would, or if it was possible at all. I've seen many a great thing from Halo:CE and the people who continue to turn out amazing map after amazing map years after it came out. What do you think?

Or you could make a vehicle, place it on a vehicle teleporter, and make it teleport you up in the air where you drop down. Make it like a passenger seat with no driver, so that it will still teleport you when you get in, but you cant control it.

All of those Ideas are really bad. Want to know why? Because theres an easier solution.
If your going to use the H2 Drop pod, you just place it were it lands and use effects and sounds to stimulate the effect of falling. Really simple. The only glitch with this is getting exiting animations (in first person) to work correctly. This was going to be done in Project Lumoria but we ran into that last glitch and decided to just make it a regular cutscene instead. It was pretty cool.

If your going to use a H3 one, were you can see outside, put the entire world in a different sky and bsp. Animate the sky to stimulate the dropping, and your good.

Just make it so player can move head.

Hunter, I'm pretty sure that's about the same as what Botkito said.

My suggestion, or rather an edit to that, would be to have drop pods with a hole beneath them that they can fit though. You will enter it as the driver, and then when you move in any direction, the pod will move but the only place it has to go will be downward and out the hole. From there on it just free falls and (I believe you can do this) the vehicle physics will be set up right so that when it hits the ground it pretty much must land rightside up.

If it's possible to make the driver also be first person, then do that and also if possible, have a pair of arms just holding on to two handles but they are not the player's, they're simply just arms 'floating' there but the way the camera moves, you would think they were just yours.

That idea is bad becuase your taking up wasted bsp space.

Well for single player, =EP Killa made some elite drop pods that worked. I think that's on youtube. I was thinking, if you could get an object to stay in the air and not move until something hits it(this sometimes happens with hogs when they are dropped of from coldsnap-type pelicans),you could make a pod-shaped object that you could walk into and it would fall to the ground. As far as scripting and such, well, I haven't touched that stuff in a year and I hardly knew anything back then.

No. He did it nicely, but one beta tester always overshot the landing zone, whereas me and elefant always hit the correct landing location. Because of that, they were removed.

drop pods don't always land upright the can land upside down(or any other direction)if knocked off course by something.
In CE online, nothing is going to knock them off course but in the case that you do, for something like a single player map or otherwise, want them to get knocked off course than you can allow for it to do that.

In the case of online though, too bad so sad, your pod is going to land 'perfectly.'
And if messing with vehicle physics can't make you do that, I propose a simple boost that just propels you downward so you can use that right when you're about to hit the ground and you're guaranteed to land right.

What the hell man, I explained this and you still aren't reading me.

It's not going to happen in Multiplayer. And by the way, bullets won't do crap.

If you somehow hit it with a tank or a rocket then I will give you $100, but otherwise this idea is mainly for the 'cool' factor and role playing, not actual online warfare and carnage where it would be used for gameplay purposes.

Besides, messing with the pod that would be near-equivalent to spawn camping (if the teams spawn that way).

I'm pretty sure it'd doable anyway for RP and Stunts maps. I know 2 people working on some in different ways... one is doing a banshee swap the other goes from scratch. Whichever way Vehicle making knowledge is really missing around Halo.

If anyone has intention on making one, it can always prove useful I guess.

^lol lands on enemy player, & if it lands on an ally; they would be pushed across the map. Unless betrayal is on. (idk if possible in gametype, havent messed with them in a while) ;)

I know how to do it! Make it a drivable pod, then make very glitchy animations for it, so that you can't actually steer. Then you'll just end up falling down, and you can land wherever you like.

Alright, it's not a very good idea, but I'm not in an imagination mood. :P

Why not make it a vehicle like the ghost so it can turn sideways while falling, but gets stuck when you hit the ground, and so will no longer be able to move once it lands?

I don't know if it's still true but the last test allowed for some sliding...it did cause some handling problem over time. Notably the pod leaning when on the ground eventually flipping... so we made it sort of numb, to get rid of that problem. The question will be finding a good balance between both And hopefully, fixing the Exit animation that kills you everytime:O

u mind sending me that hev vehicle? I always wanted to have an ODST droppod as a vehicle. So I could actually use it. Unlike the scenery, which well. U cant even enter since its a scenery. D:
