I think he's saying he's making the map out of a plane. You're supposed to use a box.

I find it easier to use a plane in Gmax, unless the map is completely indoors. To make your planar map a perfect mesh, or 'completely boxed in' with a sky, you should extrude all the edges along the perimeter, and align their points to a z value high enough. Then select all your faces and use the Cap Holes modifier, to make a sky face. Then make sure to weld any unwelded points (a side effect of the modifier).

When I compile my map it says found nearly coplanar edges or something(Red and Green) The map is meant to be out doors but the tutorial told me to make the sky by unhinding the box so i did and added a bitmap to it to look like a sky but should i hide the sky and make it in Guerilla or something

Once you get your first few maps done, you should learn to planar model using editable poly, because it is infinitely better than box modelling. However, that's not to say don't ever use box models, if you want to cheat here and there, for a bunker perhaps, use a box, or a cylinder for a gun barrel, but the majority of your model should be made from a plane.
