I've had this idea floating in my head for a while now and I would like to see other's opinions on the matter.
The idea is a project to create 2-3 maps with custom weapons that would replace a few old weapons but still retain the Halo style. The weapons would not be remakes from other Halo games.
The project would be pushed foreward with community support from people working on assets. The community can model, texture, and animate and get a few bucks in return. Most of the funding would come from community donations but I'm willing to kick start the project off with a $300 donation. All money would be dealt through Paypal.
The people working on assets wouldn't be getting payed a lot. The amount for assets would vary between $5-50 depending on what exactly it is. An example of this would be, about $20-30 for a weapon model. This isn't a huge chunk of money but it is some that can be enjoyed.
Right now I'm curious to what the community has to say about this. The questions I have are:
Would you work on game assets? Would you donate money to support the project? Do you think this could be succesful, why or why not?

This community is a free community.
Talk of paying and donations is ridiculous and not wanted here.
edit: If you want to fund the community, send donations to Dennis. Edited by Scott on Jan 28, 2010 at 04:19 PM

1, yes 2, probably, if I worked on it 3, Not really. And heres why. Most people would probably love to get payed for working on something they love, even if it isn't that much. However, people work at there own pace, and especially when a designated team isn't working on such a project, things would get pretty hectic. That being said, it'd most likely become unorganized in the long run, and in the end not worth it. I'm not saying its not possible, but I don't think it would be a good idea to invest money into something that might never even really kick off, or that might not turn out very good in the long run.

Plus a lot of people who want to contribute might not have PayPal or can't get one. I'd probably help out in a community project, and I think if it had some good leadership and some mature and talented people working on it, maybe it could turn out well.

Kiwi gets along with some, though he can't make anything, so weh. Anyway, this is an interesting idea. Kiwi would love to see this work, but he's not sure if this will for a number if reasons. The biggest hurdle is getting people to donate, the ability of some to work together is another. Edited by Kiwi on Jan 29, 2010 at 04:42 AM

good idea. right kind of motivation and a community thing. Nice I hope this one works out.
btw- xel is just a little more brash then most and he has a understanding about this world most do not. it is hard to be shrewed when needed and He makes people question there own actions. Not a bad thing. He has never judged me thru all of my mouthy times and helped me become a part of this community when others shunned me big time. That takes courage and understanding. He is a friend and Like anyone elese, you just have to get to know him. I am just now learning these lessons of needed change in another thread and Slayer you are right bro, about people not getting along and we should try and change this, but you can't single xel out like that, you would have to add me and a few others if that were the case. We all need to learn to get along. I will start by changing me and my temper, so I can some day be a better person here. Peace all
How would you implement the donation thing and who would over see that end of it?

I like how in a thread about bringing the community together and working with each other in a big group effort to create some cool stuff for the community, people start a flame war.
