Well, since one of my weapons would have a clip capacity of 48, as well as a high rate of fire(18 rounds per second), I'd want to make it so that the weapon randomly, but rarely(1/100 chance), jams. Just to make it pause for a few seconds(about 2 or 3). I was inspired by the Plasma Pistol's inability to fire continuously when low on battery, so I figure it would be a nice touch of realism to my carbine.
As for the ammo cook-off, it's not that cooking contest or w/e, it's when (usually) caseless ammo goes off because of too high temperature, a.k.a. premature firing. If possible(most likely via the above), how do you make the SMG(because my SMG is caseless too, even if it's original and not the usual M7 we know) stop firing for a split second and attach a damage_effect that deals very minor damage to you(like the trigger.damage_effect)? I'd also like this to happen rarely like the jamming part, although it'd be about 3/100 chance of cook-off.

You can edit it in the weapon tag. Look for the error threshold like in the ppistol or prifle's. As far as I know, though, you may need an animation for the jamming... I'm not sure about that.

Error threshold is the amount the bullet strays from perfect center. What you're looking for is "misfiring".

You can have misfiring (plasma pistol/rifle). Also there's an option to have a detonation effect when it overheats, but I've never tried it so I don't know if it works.

Ok, I'll try, but the ammo cook-off is still a problem.
I'm even gonna have weapon heat for automatic weapons(such as light machine guns).
I added a misfire effect, but nothing happens. And how can I direct the damage_effect to damage you? Edited by PX173 on Jan 27, 2010 at 05:24 AM

You know, the weapon is giving me a crappy impression. A fast, poor designed bullethose that overheats, jams, and cooks off rounds. The point of weapons is to make them balanced and well designed, isn't it?

The point of weapons is to make them balanced and well designed, isn't it? Actually, no. It's just the SMG(and a caseless rifle) that cooks off. It won't jam since it's caseless. Machine guns and "heavy" automatic weapons overheat. Other weapons with a high clip size and rate of fire jam, rarely, but still do.

Just a suggestion, but if the gun jams only once in a hundred reloads, it will be extremely unlikely for the player to experience a jam, probably not even once in a game, so I would suggest you make the jam more frequent, like one in five reloads.

People, would you please shut up and try to help? And when I said 1 in a hundred chance, I meant one in a hundred every time you fire. So it would jam about... every 2 reloads or so.
