Besides, Bit Torrenting is a tremendous waste of resources and time. The current system is perfectly capable of accomplishing tasks. I also hate bit torrents, so my opinion is slightly biased. Edited by DarkHalo003 on Oct 21, 2009 at 11:24 PM

no its the truth cause did you know the pirates bay a torrent system gets paid by the government over 1 million dollars a year and there torrents but how can something illegal get paid by Government and businesses around the world? hmmm cause torrents are only illegal if you use them incorrectly. in the wrong hands they can be illegal. basically your stereotyping torrents and torenters.

Torrents are a legit and respected form of online distribution.
As with anything in the world, people find a way to abuse it, but the method is still respected and perfectly legal.
end of conversation.

It's your problem. same goes for the others who think bittorrents are illegal: simple don't download and miss all the fun, go change your internet provider end discussion unless you want to call vern an idiot againEdited by JLtheking on Oct 22, 2009 at 12:51 AM

As has already been said the bit-torrent protocol is a legal, technically reliable, respected and robust file transfer method. What you transfer is what causes legal issues. There are no copyright issues with using bit-torrent to transfer Halo CE map files.
However the bit-torrent protocol like all protocols has limitations and optimal use parameters. The Bit-torrent protocol is most effective when there are a large number of people wanting the same content at the same time. As the number of people downloading a particular file increase the protocol becomes logarithmically more efficient. The opposite is also true; as fewer people want the file it becomes exponentially less efficient to the point of uselessness. That is why we do not employ bit-torrent for the file archive. It does not offer a sustainable, predictable or reliable transfer rate for files that may not be immediately popular. The files downloaded from our archive may be old ones, new ones and may only be wanted by one person that day or week.
The CMT Campaign maps, when first released, will be wanted by a large number of people immediately upon release so a bit-torrent would be an effective way to distribute them in the short term. After the initial release and the “swarm” behavior subsides then the file archive FTP will be the most efficient way.

Quote: ISPs dont make copyright laws. fun story: iv got a friend who uses bittorrents for everything, legal and illegal. one day his ISP called him up and said "man you use a huge amount of bandwidth, the hell are you doing? illegal downloading?" he said yes, and they hooked him up with higher bandwidth connection. so yeah vern ill give you that alot of it comes down to what the ISP allows. just dont say that bittorrents for legitimate things are illegal, because clearly they are not. That is the funniest thing I've read in a LONG time. To those who are using this to flame CMT and to flame others, I did not create this thread for those purposes. The reason for creating this thread was instead to find information as to why there have been no updates on SP v2. Listen I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not anticipating this mod too, but really people cool your jets, its a forum not an arena. Edited by THEFEAR on Oct 22, 2009 at 09:47 PM
